New TENDER needed:

I have been looking for a new tender for my P45, surprisingly little room on the bathing platform, max LOA 2.9m and very low crane lifting capacity at 200kg, albeit I reckon I could push that to 250kg with some assistance.

Must take 4p and have solid/Alu floor. I have been in touch with Williams as their entry level Minijet albeit 3p would fit the bill but very expensive at nearly £18.5k with covers and Lifting straps and they’re not open to any negotiation, so I have been looking at the following:-
AB ABJET 285 Compact
Highfield UL 290
Zodiac Cadet 2.7m Alu floor
Any other suggestions gratefully accepted, I emailed James at Boats.co.uk but sadly no response.

Anyone know whom might do the best deal on the AB?

want to sort this now for a trip next year, C19 permitting.

Not a Jet, John
They are the "Hoover of the Sea"
And heavy.
I would look at an Aluminium hull - amazingly light and strong, of course.
Then pick a good outboard for it.
If you bought a Jet, YOU WOULD LOVE IT - for a year or so - then reality would set in!!

If you are still in SC, it would be worth popping over to Jill and David (Souris Rose).
They have just updated their Walker Bay (like my old one) to a new Walker Bay.
Stick a Yam 40Hp on it and it would fly - mine did.

I bang on about these. They are brilliant. Short when not in use allowing max usable length. And hard to nick your engine.
I don’t ever want a sticky out engine again. And don’t want a hoover.
You may be able to go to a 3.1 without a sticky out engine.
Cabrio Espace 270 (Open Boat)

And what did the walker bay man call you at the boat show?
Yea but that was 9 years later when I was looking for an upgrade.
He didn't remember me when I asked him if you could stick a 40HP on the Walker Bay.
He said that some nutter had done that a few years ago and they didn't want to do it again.
I said - that nutter was me - and it is a BRILLIANT little boat.

Nutter. That was it ?

Having used said little boat I can agree it was brilliant. ?

In the famous words of David Cameron - I agree with Nick (well Hurricane in this instance). I am told the new engine design in the Williams is much much more reliable but in my view they always go wrong and they are not easy to row when you find yourself in the proverbial even with a paddle. Look at the Brig. I believe their smallest tender would fit the bill exactly and it will cost a lot less. However if you want to mono ski and roar around towing things I think you are stuck with Williams.

How much are the abjets ?

Seriously though, John - the Walker Bay
Could you push the length to 3.1m?
Thats the size of the smaller Walker Bay
Weight would be fine - Boat is 81 kg - BIG engine would be under 100kg.
Your crane should easily lift that.

All said by someone who pushes his dinghies to the limit.
When we were buying the Princess I wanted a 4m RIB.
The Princess salesman said it wouldn't fit.
Thats why we had the Walker Bay
What do I have now - a 4.3m Novurania with a 70HP Yam!!!
And, yep - IT FITS - on the flybridge and on the bathing platform.

I think it was JFM that once said he always over engines his RIBs
Go and talk to David and Jill - and have a look at their brand new Walker Bay.
I think it has a 20HP fitted.
They were out in the lagoon last week in it - I stopped them for a chat whilst I was doing some varying propeller tests on my RIB

I guess it ultimately comes down to what you want from a tender?

I have an AB 8 aluminium rib with a 15 hp Mariner 2 stroke. Does 28 mph, planes with 2 adults/children. Boat weighs 33kgs, engine weighs 33kgs and the fold up launching wheels means you can just drag it up any slipway/beach.

FWIW, I've spent the past 40 years messing about with boats and I've been very impressed with the quality of the AB and that's from a Scorpion owner...

Thanks to all - definitely more food for thought.....

Mike
As you know, I like the WB but cannot squeeze it onto the back, I have chocks and may do a dummy run if Jez is out later this year. Do you know the total weight of your (old) set-up?

The quarters on the P45 run almost to the end of the bathing platform at a steep angle; I fitted a 3.5 Ribeye and before that, the 3.4 Avon Rover on my F43 with 25hp 2T with no problem and had a better capacity crane too,

Trust me to want to buy when there is no SIBS.... My budget is £10-15K Max, so that rules out the jets I think.

I like the concept of a folding transom to bring the motor in, the Cabrio is in my list for further consideration......! Anyone have one, any leaks or other problems?

I think that my old WB was under 200Kg
But IIRC it was a 3.4
Looking at the WB website, they make a 3.1.
See here Walker Bay - Genesis Deluxe Console Rigid Inflatable Boat

That said, even though the WB was good to us, I think that a proper Aluminium tender would be tougher.
Something like the AB - this one Mares | AB Inflatables
Are you sure you can't get a 3.1m on the boat?
I would look VERY closely at that AB Mares one.
When I stepped off your boat the other day, I noticed that she has those nice large step on/off extensions to the bathing platform that makes it easier for old gits like me to get on and off.
It seems to me that weight isn't your problem - size seems to be more the issue.
Obviously you would need something small enough to get a passerelle over when stern berthing.
And something that you can walk past on your home berth.
