Which second hand 36-38 footer for 60-100K?

7.3 tons @ 39ft suggests not.

Weight does not equal solid. Concise Oxford Dictionary has nearly a whole column on the word. Not once is weight mentioned. Some examples of words used

stable shape
having some rigidity
of substance throughout
strongly constructed, not flimsy
well grounded, sound, reliable, real, genuine, not fancied or pretended or showy
sensible but not brilliant

Sums up the boat well

However, if you want to carry surplus weight around in your boat's structure then buy something else.

You had a Moody 36cc on the list but say the cockpit was rather small.

Have you checked out the Moody s38. Aft cockpit, table you can sit around, no teak decks, draft 1.5m shoal keel, genoa winches reachable from helm but main not although being a moody it takes a lot of wind to make her heel... Some are available with in-mast furling- I think the one for sale in Spain has. Biased as I have one... but a lovely interior!...

Search on somewhere like yachtworld for 'moody 37-39ft 1996-1998'

Any questions - just ask! Rgds Martin.

yes but as they only made 60 they are like rocking horse doodar. especially good examples

They are really underselling that boat... the extras on their read like a dream list of how you would want a boat set up.... Bow sprit with new Chute, plus all the spinnaker gear, Moveable sidecars, New sails, solar, wind power, new radar/plotter, ais, see-me, even a bleeding burgee thing for the top of the mast complete with halyard!

The only gear missing from my list is a hydrovane...

Really, its turnkey.. must be 30k worth of newish extras on their easy.

As for the two loos... well he could always rip one out and put in a sauna.:D

If I was in the position, I would snap her up!

Wow... this is a fine example indeed.

As I own the big sister to this Bav, it is a fact that older Bav are a bargain given the harsh reality of their "wobbly keels". Mine is also Lloyds 100 and a surveyor asked "is she was a Swan?" He almost was surprized when I stated the maker.

Of course I am biased because I own one but have you considered a Beneteau Oceanis 361?

Aha, thanks for the tip. Looks like another contender. The bed in the front cabin looks quite pointy. How is it for comfort? Swmbo and I both have a full figured, athletically shaped bodies (ahum)

For a 36ft boat the bed in the front cabin is just OK for SWMBO and myself. But I must say that I am 1.88cm tall and my wife 1.80cm (I think that's 6.3ft and 6ft).
Very comfortable boat in general with excellent heads having a separate shower a rather unusual feature for its size (believe me you will never think twice to have your shower in there; applies even to me here in the Med which for 6 months per year is not cold to have a shower outside at the swimming platform).
Cockpit is quite comfortable and wide, mainsail winches are not near the helm (well typical modern stuff) but genoa winches are (I have 48st lewmar and even my 7-years son can use them!), it sails well but you must respect the heeling angle limits (up to 20 degrees), reasonably fast for its size, quality in general is good, nice cheery wood down below (and plenty; it was these years before Beneteau started using a lot of plastic).
I have a furling mast which for me is adequate but this is a personal matter. In fact my sparcraft mast offers me the choice to use a classic mainsail but not for the moment.
In general for a family of four persons is comfortable and a nice boat.

PS: But as I said I am biased and cannot be objective.

This boat here is the one for you...

I have seen her in the marina and she is a excellent example... 1999 = good solid German Lloyds certified..

Loaded with all the gear.

Personally I would buy this boat, I think this has got to be the deal of the moment!

Its not so much buying it Doggy its running it . Cost in our marina for a visitor of that size is £113.4 per w/e !! Or £90 pw for an annual berth .

From your wish list and budget I was surprised to read that you'd dismissed the Beneteau range. Well done to cmedsailor for putting the 361 back in the frame.

I'm biased, too; I've owned an exceptionally clean example for 5 years and have no desire to change it just yet.

We can all write a letter to santa and hope that he manages to get a Disco 55 down the chimney (or any other classic vessel out of my reach), but for the type of sailing I do, especially working and living 120 miles from the marina, it pretty much meets all of my needs.

What ever your decision, I hope she'll bring a constant smile to your face each time you board her.

Have a look at the Maxi 1000 or Maxi 34. This month's Sailing Today has an article about the 34. They both should be bang in budget and both are beautiful sailers.

Did you consider a beneteau 393 clipper , biased but think they represent a great yacht for less than £80k ish

Dehler?

I note you dismissed Dehlers at the beginning of the thread. Which ones? The later ones (Judel and Vrolijk design) are quite different to the early ones. My previous boat was a D36 - sails like a witch and very comfortable. And still for sale :-) PM me if you want to know more.

I would have a good look at the X-yachts and I like the Dehlers also, interiors vary alot on them.

Definitely agree about the varying layouts on the Van De Stadt Dehlers. For example, I agree that this is an ugly interior http://www.boatshop24.com/en/sailing-boats/dehler-de-37-cws-2554595

But I certainly wouldn't call this ugly http://www.boatshop24.com/en/sailing-boats/dehler-de-37-cr-2673909

Also note this one draws only 1.5m, but won't be tender.

Also I bet you won't find another boat of this size with easier sail handling layout - all mainsail hoisting, sheeting, reefing and dropping, and foresail sheeting and furling can be carried out by the helmsman singlehanded, using 2x electric winches.

Another vote for the SO36.2. We've had ours almost eight years and have yet to see a boat in your size and price ranges we like better.

the best of luck with your quest.

Love the Dehler interiors... I really like that first one, They really have given some thought to function... I dont know why folks think the first is ugly!

What Really puts me off though is that CWS system.... Awfull waste of a decent cockpit!

New Dehlers (Hanse!) are Dull dull dull! Did zero for me!
