Which new batteries?

I bought an Exide car battery from Tayna & it turned up the next day. First order from them, after a number of car forumites lauded them. No complaints there. Will definitely be on my shortlist when I next need any new battery.

Reviews of battery companies tend to relate to delivery and service, rather than the actual batteries.

Fitted a 110 a/h Varta 'Hobby' battery earlier this year. Too early in its life to tell you anything useful but its a good work horse so far. When I was looking for a new battery they seemed to be well regarded, and they're about the heaviest 110 a/h leisure battery (as opposed to true deep cycle battery) I could find at the time. Varta suggest they not be used for engine starting, which I felt was a good sign, at least compared to the masses of dual purpose leisure batteries available.

I have used a pair of Varta ‘Hobby’ 110Ah batteries for years and have found them very good (though they are not the cheapest of course), replacing them with the same – partly, as you have done, on the grounds of weight/Ah: my thanks to Plevier for that tip! I did use them for starting a small 18hp 3-cylinder engine without evident problems before fitting a dedicated engine start battery.

Why the big batteries?I have one 120 ah truck battery and several 110ah- more than adequate.

Not sure what you're saying here? The OP asked about Tayna batteries & I related my experience of the company.

There no doubt 6V golf battery are the way to go , but at what price , I alway brought 12v HD battery's around the £100 touch , last lot lasted 5 years . And we are full time liveaboard , on anchor 9 month each year.
6V battery's would have to last me at less 15 years just to be cost efficient and match up to my cheap HD battery's .
