Hello Craig

Did you think this was another spamming possibility?

Sorry.

I am all for reasoned discussion, but your incessant takeover of any discussion that concerns an anchor is starting to get on me tits!

So, I suppose I'm not allowed to participate?? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

(but if I can?? of course is the Craig's one!!!..)

Can't believe that I'm answering YET YET another anchor thread ...
but just to say that I have been entertained and informed by both Craig and Hylas. Always good to hear from designers whose stuff actually works.
So what's wrong with someone actually having a point of view?

I am not saying he (they) have nothing to contribute, but not at the expense of every other anchor or opinion. No one is allowed to ask about anchors or anchor techniques without Rocna or Oceane being shoved down their throat.

The only opinion allowed lately on anything about anchors is Craig's. I am sure Craig will have a graph showing how much more valid his opinion is than someone who lives aboard and anchors everyday to live.

It is the difference between promoting a product and spamming, he, in my opinion is using the forum to spam. As I seem to be a minority of one I will try and get this thread removed.

Keith, please?

I guess we have to accept that there are a few forumites who absolutely must have the last word on every topic related to the area in which they consider themselves expert.

Guess its reasonable to treat both of these guys as experts - after all they have both designed and manufactured successful anchors - which is more than anyone else around here has managed.

However, their posts do tend to read a bit like adverts. I have sometimes wondered whether the powers that be would pull some of their contributions.

Personally, I give less weight to their opinions because of this obvious bias. What it would be interesting to see from both of them is discussion of the situations when another design of anchor is superior to their own.

I noticed in the article in YM on Wanderer III, now on her 5th circumnavigation, that she still deploys a CQR. I think it would be safe to assume that she has anchored on every bottom, in every seastate and in every wind condition. Maybe the experts might care to reflect on how she managed to survive for so long using such outdated, inefficient ground tackle?

We can all make our own judgements on the opinions expressed as those mentionned do not disguise their vested interests.

Personally I appreciate their contribution and do not think it is the same as advertising.

I disagree that it is spam as the threads are invariably linked to anchoring, it isn't as if he started sending PMs to everyone advertising his anchors. Actually, on the contrary IMHO it would be nice to have more professionals join in and defend their product. For instance to have the designer of the Bavaria keels join in some threads would be great fun!

"everyone advertising his anchors."

but just a point.. I fully understand that my comments would have been considered as advertising when I was manufacturing and selling anchors..

but now, I'm retired and no longer having any financial and commercial interest with any anchor manufacturer.. Would I be allowed to explain my own opinion like everybody on this forum??

(And at the Sail test, le best anchor has been the small 16 lbs HYDROBUBBLE.. )

Hence I did not mention you in my first mini rant.

It is not that Craig is not welcome by me, some discussions have been enlightening, but rather than just put his point across he tends to swamp any thread which lately have turned into a Craig vs Hylas spar.

The moment that starts the originators seem to disappear and none of the questions get answered, we end up buried in theoretical graphs for a perfect bottom with a constant pull on the pick. I must admit to turning off my engines when at anchor, never left in gear like in every test published, la la.

John Brooks posts here from icom, just enough as not to be a pest, he will give a straight answer to a straight question. He has never jumped into a standard horizon thread telling everyone they are idiots for not having his kit on board and you are likely to loose your boat as the trusted radio set that has performed faultlessly for years is not an icom.

If I ask a question about Rocna anchors I would expect Craig to reply. If I asked about the best way to stow a CQR on deck I see no reason at all for him to jump in, but he does. I did report this thread earlier, but it seems the admin are not available to delete, or have chosen not to.

Can't say i have noticed Craig doing this. Can you supply links?

I hate to ask, but is there something a bit more personal going on here - I like others on this link don't recognise the 'problems' that you seem to?
