thanks for all the replies and the quite surprising number of PM's offer help to get tooled up. I have decided against the red sea for the moment and will be keeping the current armaments for the time being (2 x Supersoaker 2000)

Very disappointed no one has mentioned Exocet. Take out the pirates when they are a distant blip on radar, and hence no stressfull close to engagements with Supersoakers

How would you know that they were pirates until they approached closer? Or would you just take out anyone who got closer than, say, 5 miles on the basis that prevention is better than cure?

If I remember correctly, the armour piercing ammunition penetrates 20mm armour at around 1NM distance. And it also has an incendiary effect which is great for eliminating the odd super tanker.

And the best thing is that it comes disassembled in three parts in a neat black plastic briefcase!

(This is the sniper version. The standard issue looks a lot more impressive.)

I think this is probably the best anti-pirate weapon I've found so far. No problems with aiming from boats that are tipping about a bit. Just point in vaugely the right direction and pull the trigger - and it'll only take one round to sinkem

I reckon now upon reflection that if we were to bottle some of the testosterone wafting about this thread then we would have a very effective pirate reppelant (why do I never know when to double up upon my letters)

Why don't you ask the grey funnel line if they have any twin barrel Oerlikon's left over?

Make every 5th round a tracer. Scare the pirate's sh1tless when they see all the lumps of white hot metal flying their way.

But for god's sake, DON'T go any higher than 1 in 5 with the tracer, otherwise the barrel's will overheat and the rounds will stick. I've seen it happen /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

10 gauge pump-action, alternating slugs with 00 shot. Will make a bloody big hole in a boat.

In the US they sell 'deer' shotguns, specifically made for deer shooting, complete with rifle sights. (because, wierdly, in some states you aren't allowed to use a rifle to shoot deer with)

I think Mossberg do a stainless model. It may be only 12gauge, but even that is good.

You must clearly identify the type of people you will be shooting. The kind of area of the world you intend to shoot them in. Whether your preference is for singlehanded murder or whether you wish to use both hands. Are you intending to engage in murder just at weekends or full time.
