I need a new ariel, my indoor type thingy has dropped to bits.

Folk here seem to think glomex is the best. But which one, there seems to be one for about £200 and another for £500. Will they perform better than my bit of wire thingy??

There was a write up on Aerials.

The STATUS 315 seems to come out the best bet. Only £83 delivered (just search a famous auction web site)

Sister in law bought one, works very very well on her barge.

Means she has stopped ringing us for a chat, as she can now watch TV instead :-)

I am going to get one for our boat

You're talking about the 10" and 14" diameter models, right?
I changed mine last year, and went for the compact one mainly because the larger one would have been too close to the SSB aerial.
So far so good, but I can't tell you if the larger would have been any better.
Btw, as I recall the prices were a tad below the numbers you mention, even in Eur...

Hmm. The Status one says some thing about, ok on top of a wardrobe?? so is it an indoor ariel? I've had caravan ariels before, they dont last long on the sea. Or is the idea to put it out when parked up, then bring it in again.

which glomex

We have had glomex on four

previous boats and they were

very good,they were the ones

like a discus with a spike screwed

on top,our last one was on for

twelve years and gave no trouble.

Cheers

I've just connected a Glomex 9112 up and got great reception on digital and (not surprisingly) poorer reception on analogue including getting RTE Ireland which I've never seen before in Wales. This is mounted on a temporary 4m pole in Pwllheli harbour which is reputed to have very poor signals. It was pricey but I am very pleased with it. I found the cheapest price was at Mailspeed, Warrington

Whats pricey.

Can vouch for the Status 315 - it performs well with the Freeview channels &
it appears to pull in all the available channels with ease. I must say that I found
the Glomex systems I had on previous boats to be equally good, although the Status
antenna looks better made/more rugged.
