which flag can i fly on my boat on the south coast, the person i purchased the boat off has kept the flag

i seem to think there are certain rules / regs required if so what are these please

Red Ensign ( sewn) at the stern
club burgee at the mast Hd or Starboard crosstree
House Flag Port crosstree

cheers sailorman its the one on the stern that was on the boat by previous owner

Actually, until you leave UK waters, the most important flag for you will be the Forum Burgee

Red ensign on the stern if you want to. You don't need to unless you take the boat outside the UK.

Maybe the person you bought the boat from was entitled to a Blue Ensign or a defaced Red Ensign.
If so he would have kept it. Certainly not passed it on to someone not entitled to it.

By being a member of a club that has been granted a warrant to issue permits by the Secretary of State for Defence.

Not unusual to keep the flag and mast, mine has been on various boats in our family for the last 30years.

Yes you are anyone can fly a red, mines red.

In which case it was presumably just an "ordinary" Red Ensign, if he was a British citizen, and for some reason, known only to himself, he fancied keeping it.
