Which engine Beta or Bukh?

IIRC, the replacement (non-Beta) filters are:

Oil Filter Fram PH5343, Crossland 2142

Air Filter CA15 Fleetguard AF1657

Fuel Filter P4766, Crossland 5004

If you have a prefilter/seperator and change the filter in that every 100 hours you should get 750 hours or more out of the engine mounted filter but at the low cost of replacements I would change more frequently. Much cheaper than a replacement injector pump or injectors.

Engine anode checked every 2~3 months, it is only a 5 minute job, if even that! Change when ~50% consumed as bits can break off and clog the exchanger. Within one year you will know how often you need to change the anode.

If you have access to a metal turning lathe you might consider making your own anodes and reusing the brass carrier(s).

Good idea, As the anode corrodes (sacrifices itself) the exposed surface can become coated in insoluble oxides, carbonates and hydrates etc, all of which make the anode less efficient. It might shock you to monitor your engine anode's condition over a season rather than only at the end of the season. I have done this and found the bulk of the wastage occurring in the first 2~3 months (protecting the exchanger internals) with very little further wastage occurring over the next 2~3 months (little protection) and so on. I also found by removing the anode after 2~3 months and dipping it in some dilute HCl to remove the deposit and refitting the wastage rate was roughly the same as for the first period. It is not so much how much anode is left rather the rate of wastage which governs the effectiveness of the anode.

It gets through fan-belts quite quickly,and mine is not alone, as confirmed by a fair number of other peeps. But I am prepared to put up with that one failing for otherwise starts every time and goes and goes and goes... easily serviced.

I had this problem when using car spares shop belts on my Yanmar. Turned out that the standard Jap belt profile is not the same as the car spares one (from memory, the Jap one was 13mm and the Brit one was 12.7 wide. ) Result was that the belt sat at the bottom of the V in the pulley rather than being driven by the sides of the V pulley. Wore out in no time and left black powder over everything.

Went to the local Fenner shop, got the correct profile belt and never had to replace one again

The older cars were better built albeit they needed regular servicing.

As for old designs, many were ahead of their time and should not be classed as obsolete or "old Technology".

Older cars were better built? What are you on? Dont you remember the rust that started in year 1, the engines that needed de-cokes, and re-bores at 60000 miles, the electrics that regularly failed, side valve engines, dynamos, non synchro boxes etc. I've got a classic car (Stag) and a classic bike (Commando), but its out of sentiment (and because I like to fiddle with them) but they bear not the slightest comparison with even the humblest modern mass produced vehicle.

Yep - I love my 45 year old Land Rover. IMHO she is better than any of the modern ones. - Last real one was the defender and that is even stretching it a bit.
