Which boat? Version 2

The problem with rear deck canopies in the Med…is that much of the time, the rear is how you enter and leave the boat…and the canopy (I find) just gets in the way. Plus if you have a dinghy on the swim platform and a passerelle…it just gets a bit much.
What is handy is blinds (or something similar) that can be lowered as the sun moves and the boat moves. The izzy glass doesn’t give shade

This boat has a cover for the front screen and curtains all round inside. One of the other ones had Venetian blinds.
The dingy is deflated and stowed in the engine bay. I need to decide what to do with it. The current berth has her moored bow in with a short walkway on Port side which will be ideal for me being solo as I can open the side door to get first rope on. I will need some practice going at any other orientation but still have in mind to fit Dockmate if it is too much stress. Not cheap (€15k) but supposedly makes it piss easy.

Oh. I'm sure they would. It's the sort of thing I'll look into when I get a bit more familiar with suppliers here. I only just realised there is a huge marina complex with workshops right behind where I am staying at the moment in Guissan Plage. I'll go and have a look round them when I get time.
I've been browsing online and, as far as I can tell this is what Jeanneau are offering. Each panel can be rolled up or unzipped.

Yes, coming onto a pontoon is so much easier than Med style…handling the controls, with a cross wind, while trying to tie up and grab the slime line…single handed is a real ballet of athleticism and swearing

Survey done yesterday and I learned a lot (like different types of antifoul and when the joystick is great, when its best left alone and lots of other things).
The surveyor was really good if a little hard to understand regardless of whether he was speaking French or English. Very strong Marseille accent
Bottom line is there are no serious faults, one minor fault (leak in hot water pipe) and a few ( 5 I think ) advisory improvements.
Oil samples from engines and outdrives away for analysis.
Sea trial was amazing, he knew exactly how to handle it to show its strengths and weaknesses, the engines were very raucous on full throttle with the cover open but it hit 32 kts against manufacturers claimed 34. Just below that speed there is a resonance that rattles the sliding doors and anything else that is loose but dropping to 22-24kts and everything is smooth. “C’est normalle” says the man
Hull had been washed off when they lifted it out the previous night but photos showed only some slime around the waterline since its last lift out in September last year
All in all, I think everybody was pleased.I just need the finished report to send to my insurer, pay the money, get a new UK radio licence and get the radio recoded or whatever, re-register and I’m good to go. Apart from spending another bunch of money equipping it with life’s essentials.
But all that will have to wait as I need to go back to the UK for two weeks on Friday.
But I’ve already got the first crewmembers lined up for when I come back. The friend I've been staying with is going to join me on a trip from Le Grande Motte down to Guissan then my son and partner are going to join for a cruise to Spain.

Our boat has a lot of glass around the saloon and even in the Dutch and Belgian summers it gets really hot inside without putting some shade over the windows. My wife asked "Do we really need these?" when looking at the sunshades, after one day without them she had decided to make new ones for the ones that are missing on the aft cabin windows.

Most of the boats here have roll down canvas coverings for the isinglass on their rear cockpits to keep the sun out and black mesh screens on the inside to mitigate the sun AND to keep out the mosquitos when the isinglass is rolled up.

Edit: Our boat has not got the most powerful (Ancient) diesels in the world, Perkins 5.8litre turbocharged 145hp and no silencers with the exit above the waterline, she makes a meaty noise even at tickover and fairly gives a howl when opened up, the turbo whine is a bit intrusive at anything above 1500rpm in the saloon

@ingenious you say it’s very noisy at full chat, what engines does that boat have?

VP D3s. They weren't noisy under normal conditions, he had the engine access open so he could listen with his little electronic meter and they sounded strained at full speed ( 4000 rpm). The owner looked a little concerned but the surveyor wasn't and just nodded and said "bieng" ( ever noticed how Marseiilais stick a g on the end of words?)

Well,
Having spent three weeks lounging about in Gran Canaria and a few days looking around the Catalonia coast, I’m now starting to look seriously at some boats. Looking for hard top, diesel, comfort over speed, around 9-11m, two double berths. Nominal budget around £150k but might stretch for something I really like

I was very taken with the Nimbus 305 i was invited onboard in Mogan by its Swedish owners who had travelled all the way from Karlskrona over a period of 2 years. They said they had no problems with at all and coped well with open seas even though it only had a single 220HP engine. I've had a look at sale sites and most seem to have that although there is one with twin engines for sale in Monaco (very expensive). Nothing down in this part of the world although several elsewhere in France and Netherlands

Other ones I have seen here or online that appeal-
Jeanneaus of various types:
- NC9
- NC11
- Leader 10
- Prestige 34/36/38
The only one I've actually been on up to now was an NC9 which was moored in Las Palmas the first night I was there and I chatted to the German owner. Seemed nice although the second cabin was snug
There’s one of each of the others for sale in Empuriabrava/Roses area and a Prestige 38 here in Sitges although the vendor hasn’t returned my call as yet. There’s an identical one in Barcelona
Edit: No sooner than I had posted this and the guy phoned about the 38 so I am seeing it tomorrow.

Sealine SC35
These seem to be very popular around here. Saw several in Empuriabrava including two for sale and others in most of the marinas I’ve visited. Certainly very pretty.

Beneteau Flyer 38GT
One of these for sale here in Sitges although it seems to be a private sale rather than through an broker (For sale sign on it in English with a phone number although it is Polish registered). Maybe a bit big. Cheaper than ones online elsewhere.

Anybody got strong opinions on any of these? I realise they are nearly all stern drives which seems to divide opinions. All have Volvo engines except the Prestige 38s which have Cummings QSD4.2

I only had half a day in Empuriabrava this week but I’m renting an AirBnb next week for 3 days to get a feel for if I’d like to buy there and base a boat there. Will have a look at these boats as well. As far as I can tell none will fit under the 2.8m bridges so would have to berth in the outer areas. The AirBnb is right beside the Marina

Hi there, if you buy a boat in Spain, would you need to VAT it again if you registered it in the UK, not that we've left the EU?

I would be interested to hear your experience so far with the NC11? How well does it get up on the plane and what is a comfortable cruising speed? I’ve been informed that the D3-200s aren’t powerful enough for the size of boat. I have 200 hp engines on my current boat which is over 7000kg. I think yours is around 5500kg so would have thought it will be pretty good.
How well does the hull handle a choppy sea?
