Which boat next

Yep, all agreed, though I found your boat VERY smooth also while standing in the cockpit (i.e., just on top of those 12V monsters! :)).

As an aside, I'm not sure of what are the other boats that you have in mind, with straight shafts and separate gearboxes, but it's actually possible to "unload" from the burden of bearing the axial thrust not just the engine, but also the gearbox.
There are in fact shafts, like the Seatorque and the Aquadrive, whose stuffing box is designed to transfer the thrust directly to the hull.
Very clever bits of engineering imho - particularly the first.
That's what I had in mind when I mentioned "other ways to achieve the same result".

Thanks Mapism. The boat in particular I remember with separate gearboxes was a Princess 435 which I used to own which had a short shaft between engines and gearboxes. Yes I know the Seatorque and Aquadrive systems and I'm surprised that more builders haven't adopted the Seatorque system in particular which seems like a step forward to me. I think only Fleming fit it as standard but I may be wrong

So today I signed the dotted line for the purchase of the Ferretti 480, subject to some upgrades, service and survay icluding 6 months of warranty. After a close inspection the boat has actually only 203 hours on the engines (1100 on the genset). If there are hidden issues they are due to lack of use. The boat is a sc full option with all thinkable factory options including 6 sets of Ferretti merchandise (fleese, jackets, T shirts, caps and espresso cups :-) etc...). All should be done by 28 of May when the delivery takes place if all is ok.

Fantastic, that looks familiar. I hope you enjoy owning her. How about some more pics? Is that Lengers' yard btw?

One tip on the Ferretti branded stuff, particularly the crockery. Ferretti can no longer supply some of the older stuff so if you break a cup or a plate, you might not be able to replace it and in any case, Ferretti's prices for anything like that are just stupidly expensive. We keep a complete set of plastic crockery on our boat for general use and only use the Ferretti branded stuff for special occasions. Similarly, the fly screens for the windows are €130 each from Ferretti so teach your family and guests to be very careful with them when putting them in the windows

Wow! Congratulations, she looks fantastic! Is this the boat at Wihuri, did you p/x the Phantom?

Hope all goes well with the completion and that you'll have a great summer on board.

Yes this is the one from Wihuri and they took the Phantom as p/x. Have you chosen your cruising ground for this summer yet? CU on the water maybe :-)

Deleted User Thank you once more for the detiled info on the Ferrettis. I will definitely store the crockery in a safe place and use it only with VIP. If you ever visit Finland in the summer let me know :-)

Here are some more fresh pictures including the Phantom that goes as P/X ready to go:

Thanks. Here is a pic of my F46. Not much different! Mine was exactly the same as yours inside

We haven't yet. If we decide to come to the coast, I'll pm you. Would be nice to catch up and have a look at your new boat. She looks to be in very very nice condition, btw. :encouragement:

Have been going through the systems on the Ferretti and there are many practical small things that indicates highly experienced designers I think. These are, for example, screen baskets around the bilage pumps, drainage at the bottom of the diesel tank, sight tube on the tank as back up for the tank gauge, electro hydraulically opening and folding lasarette hatch (allows opening without removing the tender), emergency valves on the engine raw water intakes for extra pumping capacity in case of a major leak, external flood alarm horns in the stern and bow, this should give a discount on the insurance:-)

On the down side the galley is small, it seems to have less storage than the Phantom. Also as pointed out here earlier the flybridge is not very deep. Actually the fly is almost as deep as the one on the Phantom if measued to the top of the rails but the helm seat or bench is too high in my view and this gives a bit unsecure feeling and less protection from the wind. This is something I will modify.

One thing I have not found is the general users-manual for the boat itself. I found 3 cases of manuals and documents for the engines and other systems but not for for the boat itself. I'm in particular interested in the electrical diagram, lay out of the boat with its systems. I e-mailed Ferretti in Italy but they only sent me a brochure and told me that they do not have docummentation on this boat any more :-(. Any idea where this could be obtained, eg from a good Ferretti dealer. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

Also for the installation of the Garmin plotters we would need to know the best route to the fybridge helm station for cabling. Any info on this would be very appreciated

I'm not sure the electro hydraulic hatch to the 'spoiler' (Ferretti speak for the lazarette under the bathing platform) can be opened with the tender in position. But yes there are a lot of practical touches on Ferrettis which have kept us loyal to the brand. And yes the galley is small on the F46/480 but you have to remember that on Ferrettis, it is the crew that do the cooking and the driving (hence the lousy helm seats!). With regard to the galley, look on the bright side; your SWMBO won't let you down there!

Typical of Ferretti not to help you with the manual I'm afraid. Actually the same thing happened with my existing Ferretti. All the manuals for the components were there but not the actual boat manual. I think the owners take them home and dont return them to the boat. The only thing I can suggest is that you email Mike Newton-Woof at Ventura UK who are Ferretti's UK dealer. Mike supplied me a generic manual for my particular model. His email address is mnw@venturaeurope.com. Tell him Mike Finch gave you his email address

Sorry can't help you with the Garmin cabling
