For a modern french cruiser/racer?

Is there much performance difference between hard antifouls and the eroding cruising type.

Is one more difficult to apply than the other?

What would you coat the saildrive leg with?

It doesnt make a lot of difference what boat you are applying it to - with French, British or outer Mongolian - the fouling attaches and grows just the same! Blakes and International produce free leaflets which specify the difference between Hard and Soft. Basically soft is OK and cheaper for low speed boats that stay in the water all the time. Hard is recommended for planing hulls, and for racing yachts where the underwater hull is polished up to reduce drag. You cant polish soft AF - it just comes off again!

As to what type - check round your local yards at lift out time and see which boats are cleanest - and find out what AF they used. Some types of AF work better in particular locations than others.

Awl-Grip.

The pundits will all tell you it doesn't make any difference. A boatbuilder/repairer on the E Coast, V highly regarded, told me to use AwlGrip - my boat is cleaned off twice a year, and re-applied every two years.

Maybe there ARE better a/f's, maybe not.

Awl-Grip is pricey unless you know someone who buys it w/sale
