Which AIS VHF

This is my conclusion, in the absence of any clear how-to instruction in the manual. I was hoping that a forumite with the same model had gleaned some insight and could tell me..........
 
Well, one way would be to write down the MMSI No. from the list on a piece of paper, then make a manual DSC call, inputting the digits one by one with the rotary channel selector.........

I hope I'm wrong, otherwise, if I'd known, I would have bought a different make

Interesting. I asked the question of Raymarine tech support and got the following reply :
Currently we do not support calling vessels via the MFD. It is currently something we have on our feature wish list so should hopefully be included on a future release. However I cannot guarantee when/if this would happen or give any time frame on this feature.

I'm not certain, but I think I read somewhere that Raymarine's VHFs are not designed in-house, but bought in and fitted with a Raymarine case. This sounds plausible, as they're not really known as a radio maker, but want to cover the base for people who insist on a single brand for all their electronics. This would explain why their plotters only have basic communications with "their" radios.

Heads-up new Standard Horizon DSC-VHF-AIS-GPS GX2200

Hi,

It doesn't seem to have been mentioned on any of the recent AIS threads but I've just seen that SH have introduced a new DSC VHF with both AIS and a built-in GPS.

Details of the new GX2200 are available here http://www.standardhorizon.com/inde...B1B8A53F18ED6C711B7&DivisionID=3&isArchived=0 but it doesn't say whether it is coming to the UK and the rest of the EU (for cost reasons SH never CE-qualified the GX2150 so that is not available in the EU).

Good to hear it's on the wish list, I'll email them and ask for the feature too as I plan to install this radio on boat. All the other kit will be Raymarine, so makes sense to install the Ray260 VHF AIS.
