Hi, I'm in the market for a 25 to 32ft diesel motorcruiser.
My preferences are;
25 to 32 ft
Preferably around £20 but up to £30K
Single or twin diesel - definitely no petrol.
Be capable of 20 knots
Aft cockpit, does not have to be enclosed.
4 berths
Age not important but must be Fibreglass.
I love some of the 70's and 80's boats like the Fjord 30 Diplomat but there are not very many for sale. I have found a nice one for sale but it is petrol. I enquired with lancing marine and they would want £17k for two Ford 145hp turbo's ex fitting. That would put them out of reach.
Any advice would be very helpful. I would like the boat for pottering around the coast so it would need to be able to handle a decent sea.
I've seen a few decent boats out there that might suit but the vary a lot. At the small end of the scale I have seen a re-engined fast diesel Princess 25 up to a Sealine 285 or a Fairline Sedan at the bigger end of the scale.
Can anyone recommend a decent but good value boat.
Thanks...
D

I know where there is a Scadinavian vessel that would fit the bill.
Coming on the market very soon.

If you are looking for an older boat, you might want to consider a Princess 286 or a Sealine 290 which should just about be within your budget The Sealine is more modern looking, the Princess more solidly built. Also consider the Princess 266 which has a very good reputation.

If you really can find £30K,one of These should not be out of the question.Bearing in mind the state of the boat selling market,the sheer number of them about and the fact that some of the asking prices really are ancient history,a determined buyer with bag of ready money..............
A sensible boat with good solid build quality,plenty of inside accommodation and when the market sorts itself out you will get your money back if you buy it right.
Or if your up for bit of restoration This is a whole chunk of boat.
But bear in mind This one is up for £20K

Would consider the Princess 30DS as well as (in no particular order);

Freeman & Princess 33's
Fairline Mirage (29) ... but need to stay away from old Volvo MD32's
Weymouth 32
Coronet 32 Oceanfarer
Rapier 3100
Aquastar 33 and 27

and perhaps the more "non-mainstream "Fletcher Zingaro 26 Sedan " (if you can find one...).

Also a fair bit of other Scandinavian ones on the market, but they tend to be in the semi-displacement speed area at the price you quote.

Thanks for all the ideas. I know there is a big difference between 25ft and 32ft but I'm a single guy who will just use the boat mainly as a dayboat with a few friends and the occasional overnight. It's a bit complicated because I currently live by the sea but will eventually move to inland lakes. I've seen a nice Princess 25 with a new KAD32 and a duoprop. Are these a good sea boat?

My P25 was powered by a Volvo V6 and was my first proper boat.Had great fun with it and being a Princess was far better assembled than any of its american peers on the market at the time.
Prices on them are all over the shop,but beware paying over the top just because somebody has repowered an old 1970s £5K boat with £12K worth of engine.
Its still only worth sub 10k /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Can't speak for all the others but the Oceanfarer has shedloads of space. We have 12 on board from time to time and don't get in eachother's way. Not that many over night, but 5 is comfy. A diesel one may be more of a challenge, AFAIK there were very few diesel/shaft ones imported to the UK (8 I think has been mentioned). Some diesel/leg ones but ISTR the ones on sale being petrol. 20 knots is probably the upper limit unless big lumps in good nick.

Hardy 25 if you do mostly dayboating perhaps, good sea boats and 4 berths (with cockpit space for another to rough it.
