Where's the cheapest place to berth a 38' yacht? UK? France? Portugal?

I got a cracking deal for my Targa 37 @ Portimo Marina, had to sign up for a three year term but well worth it, great marina with loads of bars, restaurants beeches ect all within walking distance, gets abit lively in the summer, used to berth @ Albufeira best thing I ever did moving to Portimo..

I entered Portimão last year in the middle of August late at night and the noise from the bars and discos was frightening.I'll never go back .

Lots of damage again this last winter in the north basin with boats floating around on loose fingers and walkways down in the water. Mate had his fairleads ripped out, fortunately he was on board. I would never winter there.

There was some exceptionally rough weather this winter.Didn't know Portimão had been affected.

A quick look at Google Earth tells me there are marinas all along the Algarve coast. Must be deals to be had. Some look more sheltered / less noisy / more exposed to passing interference than others, though! Maybe a run down there this summer? Anyone (apart from Adethefridge) parked at any of them?

Lagos is very sheltered. There's a bridge that the reception needs to open for going in and out.In the summer it can be very windy from the north and slightly chilly and night life makes it noisy unless the boat is parked at the back away from the bars.Nice town.Good yard.
Portimão is sheltered (but as it was said suffered with last winter's bad weather) but can be hell in the height of Summer because of all the bars and discos. The town is only nice near the water. There's avery good yard accross the river.
Albufeira is sheltered and ,I think, quiet but IMO not so nice because it's surrounded by high walls/cliffs which make it claustrophobic. In a bad southeasterly they close the entrance and you're stuck for the duration and still must pay.Happened to a friend of mine.
Vilamoura is large and sheltered but has been taken over by horrible curvy mobos with their noisy crews. The yard is expensive and night life very noisy in the Summer. The center area is very exposed to the (rare) southerly storms.
Vila Real is quiet and cheap but may be full in the Summer. It's exposed to the wash of passing ships and there's a yard downstream.Lovely town.
Then there's Ayamonte.Very quiet and sheltered but it's empty and it can be because they've put the prices although I'm not sure.
All in all Lagos would be my choice.
Someone I know got a good deal from Albufeira Marina so it may be possible to get discounts.

You can see what looks like a marina at Olhão - but it isn´t.

Olhão marina does not normally take visitors (the boat yard does).
But frankly, it's easy to anchor off and take a tender to accesss the town.

'Deals' are had to come by. However, Lagos offers sponsorship incentives. I, as a 'flag member' introduce a prole for a nine month or annual contract and we both receive 200 euro in credit.

Pm me for further details if you, or anybody else, decides to try the place.

As a Mediterranean resident in the UK I consider over and over to move my boat somwhere in the Med. Once she was there, I brought her back in the UK near home and I could not be happier. Sometimes I still think about taking her again to the Med, but all things considered and the fact that she is still here are proof that the UK is not as bad as we make it for sailing.

I offer £500 discount to move to Eastbourne, Brighton, Chichester, Southsea, Swanwick, Gosport, Port Solent, Southampton, Falmouth in the UK. It applies only if you are a new customer. PM if interested.

I just had the most fantastic cruise to France and back, Dieppe to Eastbourne in just 8 hours, all sailing, no motoring whatsoever. I can do that next weekend again if I want to. The boat is here!

Great if you only want to get there on large tides, chance of getting frozen in and have no security moored alongside in the canal:encouragement:

That's partly right, but the OP didn't ask for the best but the cheapest. It is also at least as secure as any other marina I've visited.

You're right about visitors. When we went there for a few days last October, we were summarily chucked out by the security guard even though there were dozens of vacant berths. Still we could use the adjacent area for anchoring - or even the small fishing boat pontoons
