Portugal, Arade river, Portimao.
I've just come up the river (estuary) and went past a large, maybe 30m yacht that is anchored off the beach near the castle, But no visible signs of an anchoring system anywhere at the bow and no chain going into the water. She was stationary and there appeared to be no one onboard at the helm and their tender was on the beach.
Is there a system that drops the anchor from under the waterline or is the boat being kept in position by some drone like navigation system. I didn't have my camera so haven't got pictures but I'll maybe get some tomorrow.
Intriguing though.
Just looked on marinetraffic and she is identified as being "Greeneyes" of Italy. Photos on marine traffic show her anchored with a normal anchor chain so I really don't know what was holding her in position on the river with the ebb running.

It could have spud feet. They always look impressive stopped in mid stream with no visible ropes.
Ok, just looked at the link, it’s a sleek yacht, probably not got spuds??

I think it's a Wally in which case their anchors come from below the bow. They don't like any clutter on Wallys - everything that they can hide, they do.

There are a number of those 70+ft daysailers wih the same system, usually a trade mark by Vismara design.
For the kind of anchoring those boats do, they might as well use a dinghy anchor tied to a piece of fishing line, possibly dyneema to mabe it look posh to fishes :)

Another design thing they sometimes have is a spokeless steering wheel.
Interestingly, it has been usefully adopted in "normal" size sailboats for people sitting on wheelchairs

It is a little surreal to see to see a yacht anchor near you without any visible means of deploying the anchor. I like to watch the anchoring procedure of yachts around my boat and this spoils all the fun :).

I don't even know what type of anchor they used :(.

This was a year ago at Tobermorry.image.jpeg
