Where to Winter in Sardinia?

Hi,

We would like to go to Sardinia to winter (Balerics to expensive, and Spanish expensive and / or wont let you work on boat), any suggestions?

Apparently Bosa, and Frigiano Castelsardo are fully booked, any others worth a try?

There is a great guy who runs it called Frederico.....however it does swell up there in the harbour and we had some broken springs a couple of winters back. there is another forumite called ccscott who I think had a bad winter there last year. Perhaps he will respond also.
Alghero is lovely but a bit dead in the winter.

Alghero - only place I have been. Lovely town. Helpful staff. Quite close to the airport.

I should also have mentioned that its to winter ashore, and living aboard isnt a big issue as we will likly return to UK for most of the time, just need somewhere ashore that is reasonably priced, and pref near a cheap flight airport.

There's another place, very close to Alghero, cant remember the name, they have quite a few boats wintering ashore. Very limited room ashore in Alghero and none of it belongs to Frederico. Only one flight a day in winter, by the way.

Yes you're right, Colin I'd forgotten about them. It's in Fertilia just across the bay and there were always boats on the hard there, although space looked very tight. I have no further information though.

Hi we are in Olbia at present, on the hard. Will probably leave the boat there for the winter. Good (but not cheap) cruising around Costa Smerelda. Flights tho are difficult - Ryanair to Alghero but then have to get to the east side (train), or flight to Italy (Rome) and ferry to Olbia. Dont know about prices for winter storage on the hard yet. If I remember its about 2 hours by car from Olbia to Alghero If you dont get lost at Porto Torres

Why not? there must be 500+ boats in the whole Alghero marina filling up from there.

You\'ve a number of places

But all are a little short on hard-standing roomm so 5 months out of the water is probably not on.

Closest to the airport is the marina at Fertilia.

There are 2 places in Alghero, but not the cheapest or most secure

There is usually an opportunity in Stintino (the bus only takes about 40' to the airport).

The Coop at Castelsardo has packed up and the private contractor ia an unknown quantity.

Canningione has a fair bit of room on the carpark - fly from Olbia to Gatwick.

Olbia itself has any number of little Cantiere Navale, but I've never had occasion to try.

Left Castel Sardo in June . Coop was still working . Evidently private thingy did not happen . Digitur bus still goes to airport but only from May to September . Outside that it is bus to Sassari and wait for connection to airport .

Was still the cheapest place in Sardinia and I had my boat out on the hard for maintenance next to the Skippers Cafe , wine women and song . Good relationship with the fisher men .

You could always give it a try . I did last year and got in

there`s a large harbour on south coast of sardinia. think its called caligari of something like that. its cheap and good sailing if liveaboard.
its 180miles to sicily in the spring

I know of at least one person who got a bad diesel infection from the Fertilia bunker.

Furthermore, if you watch, you'll find the majority of locals, except big boats, bring their fuel down in cans

Are you sure the bunker you are referring to is not at soem other place ?. I was at Fertilia on the Alghero side of the river early last year and Base nautica certainly did not have one then . We got fuel by order and a tanker came down onto the yard and pumped into the boat .or if small quantities we borrowed Cesare's old Mercedes and drove up to town filling station to fill up several 20 litre jerry cans

lots of space on the hard there but no sign of bunker .

Went over to the other marina on the other side of the river to visit a friend this year and did not see sign of bunker there

Alghero had a filling station on the key next to the town promenade but this year opened up big filling station on commercial quay at entrance near where Military boats tie up. Only other marina is the one at Capo Casia which is also quite cheap

Cheep & Cheerful in Olbia
John, a friend out on the hard having repairs to boat, good yard, work on boat yourself cant remember address but if required contact me I can find out.
Down side 30 mins walk to town and has been windy in Sardina this year.
