Planning to explore the southern coast of Ireland this Summer.
Need to leave the boat within say, 50 miles, of Cork for first 2 weeks of June.
Obviously interested in avoiding excessive cost but also finding somewhere reasonably secure.

Your suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

When is Cork week? Liable to be v. Busy.

There are swing moorings at Crosshaven, could try contacting the Royal Cork YC for information, or Crosshaven Boat Yard Marina
Have a look at Monkstown Marina, it's quite new, you might be able to negotiate a rate of 15 euro per meter per week which is reasonable.
There is a pontoon in the city itself, but I would not be happy with leaving a boat there unattended for any length of time.
I was there last May, plenty of room at that time

Hard to beat the RCYC Marina at Crosshaven - we stayed there for a week in both 2008 and 2009 on our way up to Scotland / Round Ireland when business took us away. Very friendly club, also not too expensive, also got a nice finger berth both times and weather out gales both times with no problem.

In Kinsale you tend to only get the outer hammerhead which can be very exposed in SE/SW winds and the yacht needs watching. We ended up anchoring in the river first time, and avoided the second time

Crosshaven BY is fine

I left my boat at Crosshaven BY for two periods of 10 days last summer. V friendly and relaxed, but seems secure and perfectly good facilities. Closer to the supermarket than RCYC, pub and bistro closeby as well so definitely recommended. Matt Foley is the man and you can email him (his address is obvious on their website but I don't want to post it here: I can PM it).

Btw, taxis are cheaper (maybe 1/3rd!) if you just take one from the airport rather than prearranging from Crosshaven.

+1 to the Crosshaven BY Marina, very friendly people and helpful.
Good bus service into Cork City.
If you do go to Crosshaven, dont forget the fish and chips at the Cronin Pub, they were not cheap (E17), but well worth it.

Crosshaven Boat Yard Marina it is, thank you.
Fish and Chips at E17 !
Is all food expensive in Ireland?

The chippy next to the car park at Crosshaven is good value, if you like about a pound of chips with your fish:)
Otherwise, it is a bit pricy, but some good deals in the supermarkets, and also in the chandlers. Big chandlers close to the pontoon in Cork City, got a good deal on a couple of blocks and emergency nav lights.

CBY v RCYC marinas - depends on how many nights you are going to be about. If 3/4 then think RCYC is the better choice - club is super, hospitality outstanding, food and drink most acceptable, and at a very reasonable price. And that is from someone who has been there twice in the last four years from Scotland. There is just something special and a real buzz about the RCYC

You can get the bus to Cork outside the doorstep - but NO dogs allowed on Bus-Eireann, even though their symbol is a Hound! We got taken to Cork with our dog on the bus without a question - and an afternoon at the English Market (superb) - but on trying to return the bus driver walked off the job - NO dogs. After an hour of H&S, etc at the bus depot we eventually got a dog loving bus driver to sneak us on and get back to Crosshaven. Same has happened in Bangor on the train, so Ireland is not at all happy with dogs on public transport - big contrast to Scotland. So disappointing if you have a dog - no problem getting into Ireland on a yacht / car - North / South - but just watch trying to do anything with them on public transport. Have escalated this to the Irish Tourist board - but just a "platitude" reply.

For such a dog loving nation - not as I would have expected - and I was brought up in Howth with dogs all round and now live in Scotland.

As a cork man, i can offer you many good options.
I keep my own boat in a swinging mooring in a place called Aghada. Once the mooring is good, it shouldnt be a problem. I have a spare mooring here, your welcome to it for free. Once your boat is under 45ft or so and of reasonable displacement, drawing less than 1.8m, its not an issue. i have my mooring checked every year, just done last week.
Your options are as follows:
East ferry marina: cheapest you would get, and very sheltered to all apart from SE which ir rare.
In crosshaven there are several options. very safe swinging moorings, or a choice of three marinas. Slave marina, rcyc, and crosshaven boat yard marina. All quiet good with reasonable rates. My preference would be crosshaven boat yard, for cheaper rates and reasonable facilities. Monkstown marina is another NEW marina close to the city, easly accessed by bus. This is a good option and you should look at this. Be careful, Cork week regatta is first week of july. You wont get any mooring, or berth this week and some weeks before, and after. Its crazy these times. all the local boats are put off the marinas and have to find somewhere to go.
If your not only restricted to cork harbour, about10hr sail further west, is baltimore. Great spot, excellent moorings in very sheltered bay, and a very helpful harbour master.
Also there is kinsale, but not cheap, and very busy.
There is also Youghal, slightly east of cork harbour. tricky entrance, but excellent visitor moorings and very strong. best part is there free as far as i know with a small donation to "i think" the local coast guard! very sheltered, no issues here.
If i were you, i would probably for piece of mind take something in crosshaven boat yard.if you want any help with contacts, pm me, ide be happy to help.

Just back from Ireland.
In the end we left the boat at Salve Marine, just upstream from Crosshaven Boat Yard Marina (who couldn't take us following storm damage).
For future reference Salve Marine turned out to be perfect for our needs.
Good value and free electricity, showers etc. Very easy berthing and refuelling. Extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Thanks for all your helpful comments and advice.
