Where to get dehumidifier?

Saw a test in one of the mags that recommended the new type with a rotating disk (more efficient and works in low temperatures apparently).

Boat is in the water all year, but has shorepower, so other than mild concern about fire risk, we could have one running during the week, draining into the sink, to be checked at weekends.

Went to get one from B&Q, who have the right type and a reasonable size (£80) but it didn't have a connector to attach a drain tube to.

Does anyone know where to get the new type from with a drain, preferably without the 'for marine use' mark-up?

make sure you dont get one with a digital control clock,as when as is normal in marinas, the power occaionally shuts off it will not restart automatically,whereas a manual {usually cheaper}model in conjunction with a manual timer will start again albeit at a different time schedual

Try Homebase. I got a De Longhi one from one of their stores last year which was fine over winter draining into the sink. They're on their website now - but rather more expensive than I recall paying in store - perhaps it was a special offer. There's another cheaper one on their site with a drain hose facility.

De Longhi...

I have a De Longhi dehumidifier in a building at home, and I removed the rubber plug at the back and fitted a rubber hose. Nothing came out! After much messing about, I phoned De Longhi who said "Ah, yes, it doesn't say in the instructions but you need to put a matchbox or a paperback under the front edge of the machine to get it to lean back enough for the drain to work". Inspired product design!

I bought one from B&Q the other day. 10 litres per day at £74.95. It has a connection for a drain hose. However, the hose must drain into somewhere lower than the connection. As these things work better at ground level you may have a problem draining into a sink.

So far, it has been excellent.

Bought one from B@Q last year at about £75,there is a drain outlet at the back and it works very well roped on top of the sink, couldn`t believe how dry the boat was kept.

There was one in my local woolies a few weeks ago going cheap as a clear out - think it was £20!

It was one of the small new ones - rated at 600ml or something like this.

Hi Captain,
Bought an Amberdry, absorption dehumidifier from B & Q approx 2yrs ago, have used it for 2 winter seasons & can honestly say that it's the best dehumidifier iv'e tried.

I posted at the time as I had a bargain from our local B&Q Depot, bought it in the sale for £100, over half price at the time.

The usual price of over £200 puts a lot of people off, having used one I would buy again even at the £200 price tag.

Only one problem with the design, it shuts down after power failure because of the non-mechanical on/off switch.
But ths is ok if you vissit on a regular basis.

It has the ability to drain via hose & is very efficient at removing moisture.

Try Google search as the previous posts are long gone.

Thanks all, didn't twig to the electronic timer issue. Will check Homebase, Argos and Woolies, then return to B&Q if no joy.

B&Q! £49.45 with drain. 220W, 10ltr/day(?) (claimed).
