Meeting daughter who works in Colchester, for Sunday lunch next weekend (Bank Holiday!) but no idea where to suggest for decent pub food, and a nice location as I am totally unfamiliar with Essex eateries- Perhaps Heybridge Basin??? Old Ship or Jolly Sailor, I see from Google maps are quayside - visiting by car so need not be waterside
In the past I have seen several such discussions but searching here for them has brought no results- so can anyone advise please.
I should add, that whilst some noise is inevitable I do now find that if other tables are very loud I have difficulty hearing conversations at mine, which makes me ratty , something I may have to suffer unless of course alfresco eating were to be possible subject to weather

Both those pubs have tables outside, those outside the Ship are beside the lock so the view can be entertaining at the right time.
Having said that, given the choice we'd go to the Jolly Sailor. Better range of beer for a start.

Try the Rose & Crown at Wivenhoe, tables on the quayside if the weather's OK; if it's inclement you can sit inside and still see the river; it does get busy on a nice sunny day though.

If you don't mind a landlocked pub then The Crown at Lexden is a favourite of mine.

Thank you, I shall add those to my list, for my plan now is to present all options to daughter by, say, Tuesday, so that she can decide and make the booking

Suggestions & recommendations passed on to daughter for booking today- no idea what she will choose but thanks again folks for your input.
