Hi

Am looking to charter a yacht October 17th/18th this year for a week (30+ ft for 2 of us)

Where do you suggest for the best weather. Greece, Croatia, Canaries or further afield? I am day skipper qualified but have not done a lot of sailing recently so want to avoid storms and rough seas as much as possible. Sunshine would be great! (I have only ever chartered from Bodrum in the height of summer before)

Plus need some restuarants open so not in an area that totally closes up for the winter.

Thanks in advance for as much help as you can provide.

And if I have posted this in the wrong place, or there is a better place, please let me know.

Thanks

Rob

Can't recommend the Canaries

.
If you want a gentle time AND want to do some sailing then the Canaries is probably not the best option. Most inter-island passages are 60 miles or more and there are areas (wind acceleration zones) where the wind is pretty much always over 30 knots with pretty rough (though warm!) seas.

Can't comment on the Med, but I would have thought further afield. Thailand?

Greek Ionian (either North or South) is still reasonably active. We have been there in October for the last 4 years. Better weather than English summer. Going again on 11 October for 2 weeks. Many of the big operators are closing down, but try www.bobsyachts.gr (Corfu) or www.sailionian.com (Levkas)

Access is a bit easier to Corfu as Easyjet fly daily from Gatwick.

Charter

If you can afford the airfare the British Virgins are lovely, good weather, 14 knots of breeze day in day out. As a day skipper you are well qualified. Or fly into Grenada and you can sail with us for a week...lovey boat with poles, chutes and all the things you might want to learn to use. I even caught a 20 lb fish yesterday.

Try the Algarve or Faro Sailing school in Ayamonte in the Spanish Algarve. The weather here is great at the moment, still hot and sunny and if you sail out of Lagos at the western end you will have some good winds in the PM and great places to eat and drink after wards.
another plus you can get cheap flights to Faro

I will be in Lagos over this weekend if there is anything you would like me to look at for you.

regards

Steve
