You could try abrasive mesh, instead. It's about 6 quid a roll...tool station sell it I think..80 grit. I find I no longer seem to bother with the acid.
After the awful cowardly acid attacks lately I don't think any form should be generally for sale; I'd rather be shot or stabbed than that - strong acid should be left to traceable licensed professionals.
You obviously like the nanny state ethos! I don't as this country is already becoming a dictatorship. Freedom is something we are rapidly losing thanks to government interference in our daily lives.

There would, but hydrochloric acid attacks aluminium and maybe some of its alloys. Nothing bad is going to happen in five minutes but ensure thorough flushing afterwards.
