Ah yes, I think you have got it bang on there!

I was just swopping emails with a fellow forumite re the classic long keel sloops and yawls produced in North America in the '60's and '70's, and comparing them with 'modern' designs..... and we concluded there was no comparison really.....

If they try to lift MY boat like that I just dig my heels in and refuse it saying - O.K. - SUE me you prats!

I think, if you look hard, you will see wire strops holding the slings in place. Not guaranteed perhaps, but looks pretty safe to me. I also suspect this isn't the first long-keeler they have lifted either.

They don't actually lift the boat on to the carriage..you float on and the slings are there just to support the boat.

The slings are not taking any weight ; the boat sits on its keel and the slings only hold it upright. It would be fine by me and presumeably it 's proved its point.
