Where is the Type 1 Auto Pilot Pump Located on a S37

Hi all, need to update the Auto Pilot on Evenstar3.

Does anyone know where the Type 1 Pump is located on a S37?

Many thanks

Andy

You cant use a type 1 pump as she has mechanical steering, not hydraulic.

Even if you upgrade the pilot, the motor should work fine with the new one.

It is mounted behind the wheel. It is part of the wheel boss.

Glad you got out on Monday - we only went for fuel in the end due to land side chores so didnt call.

Hi Mark,

No worries re Monday.

Tom has the parts so should be up and running by the weekend.

Re the Type 1 Pump was told by a Raymarine guy in Brixham that we had Type 1 Pump.

Am going to buy the following

http://www.raymarine.co.uk/view/?id=7682

Would this 1 be better?

Neither. You need this, http://www.raymarine.co.uk/view/?id=579&collectionid=30&col=5917 but you will also need a new wheel boss if you do that as that is currently a motor.

If you really want to dump the existing wheel hub/ motor id swap it for hydraulic and fit a type 1. But its a lot of expense, the new autopilot would be an upgrade but a new drive motor wouldnt be an improvement (unless its broken?)

Was advised that the existing ST4000+ unit was dead and that the Evolution unit in the first link was the best solution.

I assume that the new control unit P70r and ACU 200 + the EV1 core sensor link into the Universal Stern Drive Unit?

Hydrolic Type 1 Pump is around additional £400 on top of the Auto Pilot Core Pack

Might get a few quotes from Solent based guys before spending any cash

Im still not getting it. Why not get the new evolution (i fancy one of those too) to drive the existing wheel/hub/motor device?

Was told that was the only Raymarine solution, brought a recon ST4000+ but that didn't work so not sure what other option I have?

The motor will work with a new pilot. The drive mechanism and the computer are quite separate. The pilot itself is old tech so you will get a big improvement. The motor was new not that long ago it should be fine.

There are 2 wires for the motor and 1 or 2 (cant remember) for the clutch. The hydraulic systems just use 2 wires but all the linear drives have the clutch arrangement you set it up like that. If they are saying you have to replace it they are telling porkies.

Ok, what pilot would work with the existing motor?

One of the reasons given for the new Evolution system was that there were no other Control/Head units that had built in course computers.

Would prefer if possible just to replace the control unit.

As far as I know they will all work with the existing motor.

I don't know of any others with the course computer build into the head sadly. So you will need a head and a course computer. Your compass (in the dash under the plotter right down at deck level) and motor should be fine. The evolution system is supposed to be clever and easy to set up but I've never used one.
Just looked at the acu 200 control unit with the evolution and that would work. It has a clutch connection and 15A capability.
There are cheaper solutions too.
