Where is it?

Mast held in a tabernacle with a socking great weight at the bottom, trick was to drop the sail, and lower the mast as you approach a bridge, and then once through, get the whole lot up without losing way.

All with a crew of two.

Only one wherry left on the Broads now, the Albion.

[/ QUOTE ]Think that Maud has also been restored, and the pleasure wherry Hathor is available for charter.

Ah Back from the Asda run now. I don't know when it was taken but pvb's estimate wouldn't seem too bad, providing the picture is handcoloured, which I doubt. But who knows?

Re: Approx date...

Yes, it looks about the same shot. It was taken between 1890 1900. It seems to be a Photochrome print.
[ QUOTE ]
The photochrom process was originally developed in Switzerland (and when the word was Americanized, it was renamed photochrome.) A photochrom is a color photographic lithograph produced from an original black and white negative. The final prints would be created by creating a variety of different color impressions from the use of multiple lithographic stones. This process "re-developed" the image into a stunning full color image that looks more like a painting than a photograph.

Re: Approx date...

Interestingly the web site I found it on asks you to get permission to use it. The one pvb found claims copyright.
As the copyright expires 50 years after the death of the artist (photographer) we can assume they are both miss-informed or talking about the whole context the pic is used in. ie, the web page

Copyright Infringement is a civil matter and taking someone to court over such a matter is either a matter of principal or a pointless exercise, unless the pic happens to have huge financial value which would be protected by control of it's publication.
The first step in taking action would be to contact the alleged infringer (?) and asking them to desist. If they did you would not have much of a leg to stand on in court.

The winners would of course be the lawyers.

Re: Approx date...

Yes they have changed it (Wroxham) by building a additional load bearing structure over the top leaving the old bridge still underneath. Drove over it today! Only ever took my old boat on the Broads once via Lowestoft (Pegasus 800) was able to lower mast and wind up keel. Probably won't bother with my current boat unless I go in through Great Yarmouth.

Re: Approx date...

I'll take your word for that I was going by what it said on the website and the resemblance in the shape of the buildings to LS's shot.

Never been to the Broads myself, flat and uninteresting (bit like my ex's chest come to think of it).

No, reckon it\'s Wroxham...

[ QUOTE ]
bridge isnt Wroxham unless they have changed it, looks more like Potter Heigham

[/ QUOTE ]As I remember it, the Potter Heigham bridge isn't quite as graceful as the original Wroxham bridge. Here's a pic of Potter Heigham bridge...

Re: Approx date...

strange how one sometimes misses things. I have taken our old boat through Wroxam bridge on several occasions and never really noticed it. This must be heading upriver and there would also be the newer pedestrian bridge in front of this one.
