Where is Captain R

I think the boat is still in the Baltic, well Marine Traffic thinks it's still there.

Was this the guy claiming to own a ship and be converting it to a pleasure boat, who then completely disappeared when it got to the point of people taking him up on his generous offers to join the boat for a delivery trip? (I thought it was Capital R?)

After all of his fantastic claims and promises, did anyone actually ever meet him, get on board the ship or join the delivery?

It looked like a pretty obvious wind up to me, but I seem to recall a few people were convinced by it.

He's in the Southern hemisphere, having had a son a year ago and very recently lost a very close family member.... not sure about the ship he bought...
Yeah he did say a while back everything was on a back burner as his priorities changed when he had his son. Can't blame him.

The Wikipedia page mentions that the ship was intended to support the Pacific Island countries in times of economic crisis. I just read up on the owner of the ship (APFII) and noticed that the founder/chairman also had plans in his private company to acquire 2x 130 feet high speed boats to transport physical cash around the Pacific Islands to circumvent the anti-money laundering (AML) regulations of banks in the region (Link).

I noticed that the original thread about the ship is very long so I didn't read all the way through. However, it would certainly be interesting to hear what happened to the project.

well many of us did follow this thread at the time (with mixed feelings).
Not happy the ship is gone, but at least I'm happy hoping Capital R is not going to come back in here...

So what's the consensus ...
- An over-ambitious project that simply didn't work out?
- Someone not who they claimed to be?

I haven't really been following the ins and outs of this.

I think it was the first (over ambitious project that didnt work out) , I think he owned the boat (or owned the company that owned the boat etc ) , and I think he was who he implied himself to be, and really did intend to do that project and believe he was going to, but I suspect he was naïve about the scale of the job he was undertaking and eventually reality intervened hence the current outcome for the ship.

Whether he really had the means to finish the project I do not know, or whether he just got bored, or changed his mind, I have no idea.

Dreamer. Seen the same on car forums in the past, outlandish claims of owning rare hypercars (or better yet a collection of same), attention seeking posts (often starting new threads on the same subject), distinct lack of any knowledge of what they claim to own, many generous promises to meet up and show car(s), let people have rides etc, zero evidence of anything at all, then suddenly disappear when they realise credibility has dried up. Nothing new on forums.

I could be wrong of course, but nothing in this thread has changed my mind (had a child so priorities changed and chopped boat up instead?)
