Sat on the boat in Exmouth Marina (?) on Saturday, waved off some friends (also an occasional poster hereabouts!) who were going to Dartmouth. Beautiful sunny day so decided some sunbathing was in order.

Half an hour or so later the phone went and Robin was on the other end asking whether I could tow him back in, conked out about six miles or so from Exmouth.

Should I have said no and suggested he called the RNLI, no that wasn't possible, his vhf not working properly, only found this out later. So I cast off on a solo rescue mission and to cut a long story short several hours later had them safely back in their berth.

Now I swear that on the way back they were sat in their cockpit enjoying the sun and emptying yhe contents of their fridge whilst I was in the wheelhouse concentrating on where we were going and definitely not sunning myself, nor drinking cos a dive was planned.

Came back from the dive, dutifully passed over a bag of scallops, had a quick drink with them until a few minutes later their booze ran out, so I had to raid my precious stores to keep them going!!

Now maybe I'm being a little picky, but isn't it normally traditional that the rescued pass over goodies to the rescuer and NOT the other way round!!

What ever did you think you were doing leaving the phone turned on in the first place.

Tusk!!

Salvage

As I presume you made no deal regarding compensation, he was of course in grave danger and you put yourself at peril rescuing him, I think you are perfectly within your rights to claim his boat as salvage. That should teach him!

Re: Salvage

One should always carry a wad of Lloyds Open forms for just these occasions. That being waved around should readily ensure being swamped in copious amounts of alcohol, food, female members of rescued party, gold chains, watches and various fixtures and fittings etc.

"I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul."..........I think????

Mobile phones

are a mixed blessing!!

Rest assured next time I see them departing it will be turned off for several hours at least!

I think it's that senile debenture creaping up. Only this summer we managed to knick nearly all your scallops, your best crab, drink your beer and then easily convinced you to scrub Muckyfarters bottom. Think you've lost the plot! IMHO of course/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

What do you mean the sea gull in front's walking !!!

You've been quite lately ljs? By the way whats a Channel Island 32 look like then?

"The Med has got me" (no not the Medway the other Med)

CI 32

Mines the original version but same hull, larger cockpit and smaller galley and heads. I'm told it looks like a fishing boat (cheeky b#####s!) semi displacement hull with a large wheelhouse.

have spent as much time on the boat as at home over the last few months, taking advantage of the good weather and now no family ties!!
