Where can I find second hand sails for sale?

My experience of buying second hand sails from CJ Marine was fine, too.

If you want the dimensions for your boat, the best way is to phone up one of the many places that people have suggested that sell 2nd hand sails and ask them if they have anything suitable in stock. My experience is that they are happy to ell you the dimensions for your boat as they have all the info on their database.

Happy shopping.

... Not sure what boat you have but we have some old Genoas (Ebay impulse buys) that would do for a 23 - 26 footer. In the NE England.

Mmmm, ''too big to care'' springs to mind. 25 years of refining there terms and conditions doesn't matter how long you been in business you treat your customers like this your days are pretty numbered - we live in a time of choice and after sale service is all part and parcel and as important if not the most important. You wouldn't go to a reastuarant order a meal that was lousy and expect to be quoted there terms & conditions ''sorry buddy the restuarant terms & conditions clearly state that you must complain about your meal within 1 minute or the meal stands'' Lets hope you are 100% happy with your sprayhood and that it fits ... by the way ask why CJ Marine won't fit your sprayhood / or charge you to fit it - could be something to this poor chaps thread on YBW ....

1. Be very careful of C & J
I have used C & J several times but on the last occasion wished I hadn't. On fitting a sprayhood they unfortunately damaged our boat. On asking them to fix the damage they simply quoted their terms and conditions which basically state that any damage they do is down to you to fix! So buyer beware... Needless to say we are now using someone else.

We order all our second hand sails from an extensive 'wharehouse of sails' wardrobe (some 25,000 sails) via a loft in the US - they bound to have something that fits. try www.sailinggb.co.uk and we can put you in contact.

boatman2014. There is something odd about your experiences. You have posted 9 times on this forum, and 5 of them have been about C&J with 3 different products and telling a story that either does not make sense or is at odds with other peoples' experiences of this company.

Do you have an agenda?

Tranona, I've responed to 3 threads, the warning thread ''Be careful of C & J'' is not my thread a quick search of CJMarine reveals other users with similar pattern of problems (being quoted there terms and conditions)? Do I have an agenda? If to warn the general public about a bad experiance with a local company is an agenda .. I don't have a dispute with CJ Marine I had bad experiances with them over the years which I've shared on this forum. You say that this is at odds with other users lets put the topic to the general audiance public - do the public think it that bad experience with a local company should or shouldn't be aired in the forum ? The topic of the forum is to discuss local 'Canvas cover companies' Is this a service or a deservice to the community? Besides the chap whose yacht was damanged and quoted there terms and conditions, the many users who comment there quotes are very high, has anyone else had a good experiance with after care service from CJ Marine?

So, are any of these examples you quote your personal experiences? Or are you just recycling other posts and not acknowledging the original source by linking back to the original so that readers can make their own assessment of the validity of the comments?

Where have you shared your previous experiences? You have only 10 recent posts to your name, those on this subject seemingly being accounts of other peoples' experiences.

I guess I've had the best possible experience. They quoted to supply a sprayhood for my Gibsea 92 (not a hugely popular model) from templates they hold, at the Southampton Boat Show in 2011, including fitting just before the boat was relaunched in 2012. The price was considerably less than the next best quote. It fits perferctly and when I had a query about removing it the first winter CJ Marine were only too happy to look up the specifc pattern to explain to me what to do. other than that I haven't needed aftercare service, which is the best place to be, I think.

I am more than happy to recommend them wholeheartedly.

I have indeed first hand experiance with CJ Marine: a stack pack that didn't fit and got a 'terms & conditions' quoted response back despite being assured it was returnable before parting with any cash. An insultingly expensive quote for cockpit cushions (£1600 comapred to £45 at comfort afloat), a ''fitting fee'' of £260 and told they can't come onbaord to fit due to insurance liability. The general attitude and after care service. But maybe it's my fault for ordering a product that didn't fit, or for owning a yacht that looks £££.

There are two sides to every story, funnily enough I'll be siding with the company I've met.

Your experience with CJ marine has little to do with second hand sails - the subject of this thread in case you had forgotten.....yet you've (repeatedly) felt the need to inform us of your displeasure with them.

12 posts 7 about CJ Marine. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Look around any marina on the south coast and you'll see their spray hoods all over the place. Every one that I have seen looks good. That is why I chose them.

And yes I'm paying for it to be fitted. I paid a lot more for my engine and that wasn't fitted for free so why should my sprayhood?

If I had more time I could have saved myself some money and fitted it myself, but my time is worth more than the guys fitting it, they will do it quicker and better than I will, so I pay for it. I don't have a problem with that. Obviously you do...

For what does one pay a fitting fee if they won't come aboard to fit the thing? There must surely be more to it than that.

Well obviously one has to pay for the fuel consumed by the hover-boards used, I'd have thought that was obvious to anyone.

Then there's the overheads to cover, leasing those things from International Rescue doesn't come cheap you know - Jeff Tracey could teach Bernie Ecclestone a thing or two I can tell you; did you see the tyre bill after that Fireflash job ! Then there's the airliner collision damage indemnity waiver if one has a Condor Moment...

There is a lot here that does not seem quite right. Find it difficult to believe that the company would not exchange or put right something that did not fit. There must be more to this than you are letting on.

How can one supplier charge you £45 for an item and another quote you £1600 for a product so simple and competitive as cushions?

C&J are quite transparent about their fitting charges as snooks points out - so why are you complaining? Equally cannot believe that they are not insured for working on boats when this is a central part of their business. So, you seem to be only telling part of the story.

By all means point out bad service, but ensure that you tell the whole story, not just selective bits that don't make sense.

Beware CJ Marine

This thread topic is discussing second hand sails provided by among other CJ Marine. Some of the posts defending CJ Marine on this thread are way too concerted detailed and aggressive - no one would go to this much trouble to represent CJ Marine without being connected to them in some form. Some of these posts almost sound identical in tone to the tone from the company themselves. Buyers beware these are the facts: CJ Marine DID sell a stack pack that DID not fit and quoted there terms & conditions (of 7 days to return). CJ Marine did damage someones yacht and quoted there terms and conditions. CJ Marine do quote & presumably charge a fitting Fee (no other companies do this).

I have no connection with CJ marine.

Your stories just do not make sense.

Stack Pack. If you bought something knowing that the terms were that returns had to be in 7 days to be accepted and you did not return within that time that is YOUR problem. You do not say EXACTLY what happened. If a company breaks its contract with you there are remedies - but you have to show that they have broken the contract.

Cushions. You do not say what the items were. How can anyone judge whether your complaint is reasonable without knowing exactly what was quoted for and how it compares with alternate quotes.

Fitting charges. Perfectly reasonable to charge for fitting and quote for products ex factory. Other companies may have a different policy and quote an all in cost including fitting. Any half intelligent buyer can make their own comparison between offerings from different suppliers based on providing the same product/service. Irrelevant whether the cost is shown as 2 items or one. It is the overall cost that counts.

Damage to boats. Given that it seems to be about another person's boat rather than yours, perhaps the owner will explain what the problem was. Your vague secondhand story is just hearsay.

So. Give FACTS and DETAIL, not vague assertions.

Thanks for this Tranona, very comprehensive knowledge of the FACTS and DETAIL, and your completely correct ofcourse it's all very clear in the terms & conditions.

I would only comment that if stack pack did not fit and C J Marine measured up the boat then the 7 days to return in their T & C would be unenforcable due to the unfair contract terms act and sale of goods act.
