Where can I find second hand sails for sale?

They will fit a sprayhood if you pay, they won't fit a stack pack. All seems a bit odd compared to other companies that will fit anything they make, without charge. when I asked why they wont fit a stack pack they started talking about insurance problems.

Signed back on then?

Anyway I'm out of here.

Just feel the need to tell everyone.

Now that is quite possible. If the stack pack needs the lazy jack blocks securing to the mast, the extra insurance to work at height is really expensive. It's affecting a lot of sailmakers and canvas workers as 'popping these blocks on' represents such a tiny part of their work, but results in a massive increase in their work insurance costs. Some pay the extra, some have a tie up with local rigging firm to fit stack packs and some I know, 'self insure' for that part of the operation.

Tim has covered the potential insurance problems of working up masts. It is quite possible their insurance does not cover this, or they impose restrictive conditions such as needing two people for the job (which is why my local rigger no longer goes up masts). They have probably made a commercial decision not to offer that service because the cost of insurance is too high and they are not prepared to take on the liability themselves. Seems perfectly reasonable to me and presumably they are prepared to accept that they may lose orders as a result.

As for fitting sprayhoods, or charging for fitting. ALL companies charge for fitting. Just that some include it in the price, and others show it as a separate item. Logical really as the big cost is travelling time, so the further away from the home base the higher the charge. All you have to do is ask for a quote for a comparable service from alternate suppliers and make your choice.

Now you might begin to see why your vague assertions mean so little.

Perhaps you would now care to share the real story on your stackpack. For example, was it new or secondhand? (this thread started about secondhand items so reasonable to assume you are also talking about second hand). Who did the measuring? What was the sequence of events that resulted in the 7 days being critical? Was an alternative offered? Posting a copy of the terms and conditions of this transaction, together with a detailed account of events would help understand whether their approach was reasonable.

Fine if you don't want to give this information - just don't expect others to believe your whinge based on the limited information you have given so far.

Some of the posts defending CJ Marine on this thread are way too concerted detailed and aggressive - no one would go to this much trouble to represent CJ Marine without being connected to them in some form. Some of these posts almost sound identical in tone to the tone from the company themselves.

That's always the problem when you turn up to a party late, you never know who anyone is. Rest assured I don't work as an employee of CJ Marine.

I've been on this forum long enough to know every story has two sides. Most of the time (not always though) the complaining party has recently joined the forum, replies to any thread mentioning the company they have a grievance with, and tells everyone to beware or avoid them....sound familiar? :)

In the past (I used to moderate the forum), I'd have been privy to a lot more information and would have been able to check IP address, see what other users had used that IP address etc etc. And sometimes it would be most enlightening ;)
So please excuse my scepticism.

It has happened many times over the years. So when it happens, and someone is receiving or has received good service, there will usually be some that step up to redress the balance. Imagine if someone criticised your favourite restaurant where you had received nothing but good food and service...would you not respond with a glowing report?

Just because not everyone sees the company in the same light you do, it doesn't mean we're employed by them.

How do you know Trenona's name is Tim??? Has anyone seen 'Hotels from Hell' or 'Kitchen Nightmares' where the hotelier is always right? Why are your spray hoods still more expensive than any other other comapnies if they are factoring in fitting and you are not? The stack pack was off the shelf, but not second hand becaue you've got the same dimensions contuniualy for sale, but you forget to mention that a return if doesn't fit agreement was in place without mention of 7 days. The 7 days no returns po None of this matters to the genuine readers in the forum they can see for themselves the ''argue to the death attitude rather than bending over backwards to please the customer.

Now you are getting even more confusing. If a company's products are too expensive for you then don't buy them. Clearly in the case of CJ their products are acceptable to large numbers of people. Perhaps you would share with us what their quote was and what you paid to a competitor so we can see what the difference is?

As to your stackpack all you are doing is repeating what you have already said. To demonstrate that the company is at fault you need to show that they did not meet the terms of the contract - and you have not done that. If they did not tell you about their returns policy then you might have a reasonable argument, but given how vague you are about all this it is not unreasonable to expect you to have firm evidence of the facts such ass the original quote, invoice, reason for return and any correspondence between you and the company.

What are you talking about?..I never mentioned Tim...Tranona mentioned Tim, in reply to the user TimBennet...the clue was that the user ID was TIMBennet...see how that works? :D

They are not MY spray hoodS, I have only bought one.

Why is my photography more expensive than an amateurs? Why is an Aston Martin more expensive than a Ford? Why is a Hallberg Rassy more expensive than a Hanse? Jolly unfair having to pay for extra for quality...Don't you think? ;)
