Where are you now?

Yes a bit of a breeze tonight / tomorrow by all accounts. I've been tracking a predicted windy patch for a while. Looked like it was Friday but hoping it might come forward to leave fine weather and calm seas for the power boating at the weekend.

In Yarmouth now crossing from Weymouth was a dream. Saw just under 32 knots at one point with a bit of help from the tide :)

Not sure where we're going until Cowes at the weekend. Possibly Beaulieu on a bouy up river? We shall see. Not great planners rather go with the flow.

Henry :)

Lymington town, on one of the fore-aft bouys for the first time in all the years we've been coming here. Rather peaceful it is too. Rafting up several deep one the town quay.

Henry there my favourite too, no one clambering over your decks at 1 am in high heels!!

At home looking at every forecast I can to find a good one! (they are all different)
Trying to get Jacaranda to Plymouth by Saturday.

Great to meet you in Weymouth Henry..

We too had a fab crossing from Weymouth back to the solent cruising at 28+ knots until just opposite Lulworth Cove when the 'engine note' suddenly changes, a vibration set's in and the panic starts as you potentially face the huge bills you're likely to incur for major engine/drive repairs. Starboard temp gauge has risen but not massively so but I immediately shutdown both engines.

There was a strong burning/hot rubber smell once I'd open the hatch with plenty of smoke and you fear the worst. I even had the extinguisher to hand!
Had a careful nose around, could see plenty of green antifreeze in the bilges which is a bit of a clue, but all the belts were in place, impellor casings were cold. Could'nt see anything obvious which is always a tad frustrating. Checked the drives/props and they were free....

So, started both engines and within 30 seconds the starboard temp gauge goes back down to the 'normal' level so we carried on slowly until the trust comes back and the gauge stays normal for a while.

Can only have been a bag maybe wrapped round the leg or something?

I can't really moan about bag's though as that's what I sell all day to keep me in this hobby:D

Panic over and came back flat out all the way...32+ knots and beggar the fuel bill as now I didn't have the huge breakdown cost to pay for :D

Good to meet you and the family as well Crazy & fingers crossed with the overheat. Do the engines have a thermostat that could have stuck? Lulworth would have been about right for that from Weymouth.

Glad the radioactive Mackrel didn't finish you off!!

Think we might stay in Lymington again tomorrow, rather peaceful on the bouys and just had an after dinner coffee on board with my 4th forumite. Can't be many left to meet now :) A couple of spaces on the small pontoon in the town and some bouys free as well if you fancy venturing down from Shamrock.

At least that wind has died down a bit now for you crazy, it was coming straight into Yarmouth last night and caused a bit of a swell.

Sleep tight wherever you are and don't forget the power boat racing at the weekend.

Henry :)

I'll be leaving shamrock for Weymouth tmro, if Its too ropey I'll be the one struggling single handed to get a buoy so look out for me!

Google Latitude has an excellent facility called check-in. Basically you can not only share your location but also "check-in" to a specific location when you arrive. Those you have allowed to see your location will be notified when you check-in on arrival - it will even do it for you automatically if you set it up. You don't have to show your location exactly (you can even set it manually if you want) but it would be very easy to set it up to show which marina or anchorage you were in for example.

Latitude is also a very under-utilised method of letting someone check on your progress if your out sailing and staying coastal I reckon.

Sounds good so I've just installed it on my phone.

Southampton Town Quay for the first time as they have only recently allowed visitors. A bit odd to get into. The entrance is hidden from view as there is an overlap of the breakwater. Leave the ruined brick piers to your starbd, bear with it and eventually you will be able to make out the entrance.

A bit of engine work to get the boat turned first right then left then left again into the correct row.

Once there up the ramp, ignore the sign to turn left, go through the door and the office is on the left. They are trying hard, free hot drinks, a bit of reading with some mags, an almanac and so on. There is a free bus from right outside the door to the train station which, of more interest to my lot, takes in the West Quay shopping centre and associated retail area of Southampton. A 5 minute bus ride FOC.

A bit bleak compared to recent stop overs but somehow comforting with it's decay. A lot of work going on in connection with the with the ferry terminal so once ashore you're back in the 21st century.

Henry :)

Holly ****. I have just poked my head in the toilet / shower / laundry facilities. I am absolutely gobsmacked. Someone has nicked the washrooms from the Mandarin Oriental and fitted them in the Marina. Without a doubt the best facilities in the UK. I wasn't expecting that!

Henry :)

How did you sleep Henry? Been told it's a bit of a nightmare when the red jet heads off. Or did you have an alcohol sleeping tablet?:D
