Got the Thames to ourselves today! Passed a few boats going the other way, came through Cookham lock on our own and currently moored on an island at Cliveden. Heaven

Taking the opportunity to end the season in style #awaydayfromthames

Yep - we found that if you spray water into the intakes using a £1 garden centre water spray then Perkins rev to over 5000rpm :) - Hambledon to Marsh is really short at 50mph :)

(well the OP asked where we all were and we took the weekend off from the Thames although we do quite like to run on the Thames as the last activity of the season to clear the salt from the engine)

I was on The Thames all weekend. Marsh Lock not manned this time; last weekend it was Shiplake Lock.
On the plus side, the crew/guests enjoy operating the locks.

Shiplake unmanned Sunday about 3.Anyone notice the lockie at Sonning on his motorised scooter? Didn't make the lock work any quicker though.

We are now into "Low Season" in EA speak - 1st October to 31st March. There is "no guaranteed assisted passage although this may be offered during published duty hours if a lock keeper is on site".
Best attitude is to expect self service and call it a bonus if there is a lock to help you through.

His back hurts him so the scooter helps him get around. Shiplake was manned at 1200 on Sunday, but it wasn't manned the previous weekend.

I don't mind operating them myself now, its so easy compared to the moving of levers and turning of wheels that I remember during the nineties. I do remember after a hard days "relaxing" at Cliveden, winding Boulters then Bray did somehow sober me up. :encouragement:
