Looking to go to the Blackwater next week from Burnham. Ideally an early morning start down to the Swin with some of the ebb from Burnham, reaching the Swin then taking the flood back to Bradwell or more likely Brightlingsea. But with big tides next week and drawing 1.5 meters I'd rather not hit the Swin bang on low tide - ideally an hour or so after. I'm sure I could work it out by interpolation but one of you clever forumites must know when low tide is at the Swin compared to say Harwich or Burnham.

Tide times at the Spitway are pretty much the same time as Walton, Bob, for planning purposes.
Bear in mind that you probably won't get into Bradwell or Brightlingsea near LWS so no point in being too early on the flood.

My Belfied Tide Plotter for Sunday 13/07 show LW Burnham at 0749 and LW at the Whitaker Beacon at 0722.

For either destination I'd use the Rays'n Channel - see the chart on TG's website. Cross an hour before HW (or a bit earlier given the big tides) and take the tide to B'sea or Bradwell.

Last week I crossed Ray's last week about HW-2 and saw mimimum depth on the sounder of 2.6m, the sounder is 0.1m below water line. Pioneer draws 0.8m and I go aground with 0.7 on the sounder - don't ask how I know!! on the way north I stayed pretty much on the 59.50 line but coming south I allowed the course to drift more towards the SWMs. sea state was slight to mod and the wind was 4-5 SWly, wind against tide. I was in company with Freebee and we were able to confirm that both hulls were fairly clean as we jumped off the waves.

thanks everyone. i always come back from Bradwell via the Ray Sand as the tide is rising and the last bit of the flood pushes you into Burnham. I suppose taking the ebb out and then across the Ray Sand on the falling tide is just a matter of timing and (without looking at the tidal atlas heading south to north) I suppose any tide would be pushing me eastwards and IIRC Roger's chartlet shows the better water slighly to the east of the route marked by the new buoys. I'm jist trying to avoid punching the tide out of the Crouch and into the Blackwater. doing it on a rising tide would mean working hard to get out of the crouch.
