When did Navionics first include Admiralty/UKHO tidal data?

Hi I went to Navionics and asked for you; here's their reply.

" Tide data was introduced around 15 years ago when we launched Navionics Gold charts."

Hope that helps

Thanks but my question was specifically about their use of UKHO/Admiralty tidal data and not tidal data per se.

I see well I put your question as you've just mentioned and this was their reply. Just pop to their Facebook page and ask or email them or phone they are very helpful and will answer your query directly. Wish you well on your quest.

Thanks but there is a reason why I am putting the question on here to people who have used their products for some time.

Still a little confused, as the UKHO are the body that collects the costal data from various UK sources it then allows this then to be used by third parties such as Navionics I’m not sure what other sources fir the tidal data there are, perhaps I’m missing something in your question.

There are open source harmonics so the UKHO are not the only source.

OP: Why do you think the source of the data has changed to UKHO? Is it credited somewhere?

I know the data is available and can be calculated, but following presentations I’ve seem from the UKHO they appear to be the most common source of data for commercial use. If navionics get their chart data from them why would they not also get the tide data, that does not make sense to me to do otherwise, as it’s only a prediction I would expect no alternates are any better than others. With the UKHO havIng probably the most historical data cover8ng the UK

Tide forecasts are a mathematical calculation thing. There are various different algorithms of different degrees of sophistication (and the real tides often don’t bother to read the tables anyway ;-)

There have been various articles comparing different sources and mobile phone apps which showed the differences.

Some phone apps pay to use the UKHO calculated data. Others use alternatives, presumably because they are cheaper?

In the past Raymarine tide figures have not aligned precisely with UKHO (cannot say either is right or wrong in this respect). Perhaps they have changed to purchase UKHO data but not seen anything announcing that.

I don't believe that they have started using UKHO data. Tonight's local high tide shows difference of 26 minutes and 0.25m between the two sources.

I don't believe they use the UKHO for cost reasons moreover the UKHO usually put a limit on third parties as to how far forward third parties can publish tidal tables based on UKHO data and this is sometimes weeks let alone months. Navionics will give you tidal date for years ahead which is very useful for fixing regatta dates a year or more ahead.

UKHO is not limited to the UK as they do produce tidal data covering world wide. This in competition with many other similar international services.

Hi - but are you comparing Navionics' tidal data with Admiralty Tide Tables, Easy Tide or Admiralty Total Tide?

What is the reason please?

The names of the tidal stations in the Navionics products exactly mirror those of UKHO tidal stations.
