Wheels at the Boat Show?

Ian, here is teh statement by NAtional Boat SHows, copied from the Visitor Information section of its website (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.londonboatshow.com>http://www.londonboatshow.com</A>). You willsee that they do loan wheelchairs - free but a hefty deposit.

Facilities for the Disabled
Admittance
There is a reduced rate admittance of £6.00 for visitors who are registered disabled. This reduced rate admittance price also applies to a disabled visitor's aide where applicable

Access to Halls
ExCeL has been purposely designed and built to allow unrestricted access to disabled visitors and to conform to Part M of the Building Regulations.

All public entrances allow for access by wheel chair via low gradient ramps and an automatic opening door. Once inside the venue, all floors are level, offering unobstructed access for the disabled.
Lift control panels are located at a level which can be easily reached by someone in a wheelchair, and Braille or tactile buttons have also been used. All lifts have a visual and voice indication of the floor reached and an intercom facility activated by an alarm button. The entire centre may be reached by lifts.
All stairs and ramps are fitted with handrails and balustrades.
All public corridors and passageways have a minimum clear width of 1200mm.
Door vision panels giving a zone of visibility between 900mm and 1500mm above floor level are provided on all public access doors.

Access to Dockside
Strong tactile differences in paving are provided to indicate hazardous areas. e.g. Dock edge indicated by cobble stone surface.

Other Facilities
ExCeL provides 27 toilets for the disabled, which are located throughout the building; near the Business Centre, the break-out rooms, the conference suites on Level 3 and the restaurants and cafes on Level 0 and Level 2.
Non-slip flooring has been used throughout the building.
All reception counters, bars and self service counters and at least half the area where seating is provided is accessible to wheelchair users.
Self Service equipment such as cash point machines and telephones are located at levels suitable to wheelchair users.
Pictographic signs and symbols have been used to guide people around the building.
Visitors with hearing and sight disabilities can gather information about the event which they wish to visit by using either the prominent visual displays that are situated inside the Central Boulevard or the Information Desks sited at either end of the Boulevard.

Disabled Parking
There are 12 free-of-charge disabled parking bays available in the Eastern Car Park, on a first come first served basis for orange badge holders only. There is a lift for access into the venue at the Eastern Entrance adjacent to the Eastern Car Park.suitable for disabled drivers on-site.

In addition, there are further disabled spaces available within all car parks, chargeable at the standard rate of £8 per day. Disabled parking bays are wide bays with minimum dimensions of 3600 by 4800 mm. Access to the building from these bays is along walkways with a gradient of no more than 1:15.

Loan of Wheelchairs
Pushable wheelchairs are available on a first come first served basis free of charge. A deposit of £25 is payable.

Guide Dogs
Guide dogs are permitted at the Show.

Thanks James,
I did have a look via the link on this site but found nothing, no doubt I didn't look hard enough,eh?
I don't really need a reduction in entrance fee though I wouldn't refuse it ( :) ) but wheel chairs on "a first come first served basis" aren't a lot of use. I would need to know for sure that a wheelchair would be there.
I'll drop them a line to see if I can persuade them to let me book one. Not much point driving a hundred miles to find them all gone,,,,,,,

I went to Southampton in September with 2 friends that needed wheelchairs. Arranged for them through shopmobility. cost £8.00 each and they were electric. They had to be back by 5:00pm. Might be worth checking if there is a local shop mobility place.

Once the avalanche has started, it's too late for the pebbles to vote

Just called about wheelchairs at the show, not good news.
The chairs are NOT bookable, so I would have to travle 100 miles on the off chance that they are not all gone, and if I get one, I need to have a 'helper' to push me round as the chairs are not the standard 'wheel yourself' jobs. Seems odd.
Anyway, I'll see if I can hire a chair from somewhere near the show or hire one at home and bring it with me.
Fingers crossed

IanW..
