whats your favourite boat.

Naahhh...

A wooden boats lover like you can't switch to a plastic hull, though possibly one of the best...
I'd only exchange the wood feeling for a real trawler, which means a steel one.
Cape Horn, Moloka'i Strait, Kanter or similar.
Damn expensive though, you're 100% correct on that!

Most boats mentioned here seem to be around 40' mark.
In that size range ill take a Manhattan 44 or Azimut 42 to save money.
If this is about absolute dream craft then ever since its launch my fav has been Manhattan 84 with stern garage - up until I saw the Pershing 115!!!!!!

Inlaws had two Botnia Targas - A 33 and a 35 footer - The 35 had two 330bhp (I think) Volvos and did near enough 40 knots yet looked like a fishing boat.

That's my kind of boat - burning off big RIBs in such a craft was hilarious!

I see beauty in function with boats. So boats like a targa look good to me.

Combine this with luxury and you get my favourite. the Marlow Explorer 72E LR

Advanced technology, great sea boat with ovger 4000 miles range at over 1.5 mpg.
Quality in depth.
25 knots when you need it.
Even the oli changes are done from the transom!
I am lucky because I have ordered one.

If, like Paul, I had the time and the money, I'd also get a big SD. While a big Nordhavn would be nice, I'd prefer to be able to outrun a storm when needed, rther than endure it.

And I haven't heard of a better SD than a Marlow, though I wouldn't scoff at a Fleming.

Lucky you, Paul. I guess you deserve it after the Trader fiasco.

Yes I am a lucky chap. I am planning to do a round Britain cruise taking my time to do it and so will welcome any forumite onm board for a drink ....... I may need a big boat for the drink stock /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Trader saga is not over and is on the point of having to go public and involved the media once again. Tarquin have this last week point blank refused in writing and verbally to comply with written agreements clearly signed by them. They have not even argued on the wording or understanding - just a point blank refusal to comply! And there is more. They may soon need exposing to public glare for all to see just what the deal was that settled the matter and how they have complied. Its almost a soap in itself. I just hope it is over before the Marlow arrives at the end of the 2008 season. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes - I am lucky to be able to do that.

The Marlow is an incredible machine with twin kevlar hull, no plywood anywhere inside it, all dovetail joints and high quality workmanship, it dries out on its twin keels to protect the props, has twin 1015hp cats with a third 300 hp Yanama outdrive, night vision screeens so you can see out there for night cruising, etc

They make machines that do 50 mph for a bit over £200k that feature the same sort of advanced technology - called the Prowler and they are now sold and serviced in the UK.
