Whats your boat name and what does it mean to you

Mine is "knot@work again!"

With the predecessor being "knot@work"

Simply because when I'm up at the boat it's "me time" and time to relax; simply I'm not at work (and I work for a major I.T. company and thus the email format of - Not At Work).

Mine is Naida which means "Sea Nymph" It means a lot to me my wife Lin was born on a boat of that name between Tresco and St Marys Isles of Scilly in October 1953 The boat a local fishing boat 22 feet long was built in 1936 and was owned by the Christopher family of Tresco and has been in that family until the present day and still used for fishing, she is in excellent condition. Lin was born on the sole with the boatman a nurse and her dad in attendance. The news made it to "Womans Weekly" and from that day on expectant mums are taken to hospital some days before the expected birth date.

Hated the boat's old name, and wanted something short - ish. as the boat is a shallow draft twin engined cat, ideal for sea and rivers. Thinking along those lines I started with Rios, added sea but didn't like that so abbreviated it, and ended up with Riossa. Haven't found a meaning for it yet, but its a lot shorter than Amethyst Project.

My last boat was called MICK.
I bought it in France, I did not like the name and when the boat was for sale I thought of adding an I to make it MICKI. and did it whilst a buyer was on his way. I should have known better as when we went out on a sea trial the engine started behaving badly, the buyer made a low offer because of the engine, which I accepted. Pulling the boat out revealed a fishing net wrapped around the propeller. Temped fate.
The first owner bought the boat new in 1986 when he was 62, which puts him a French lad at the age of 19/20 in St Malo under occupation, dont know any more details but the reason the boat was called MICK was a British Tommy he met and around 40 years later named his boat after him.
I bought the boat in 2006, according to the French boatyard he was only selling because his wife felt that at the age of 82 he was too old to go out to sea on his own. I remarked to my wife "I hope you dont try and pull that stunt on me when I am that age"
I regret selling it.

"Jeepster". That's the name my boat came with, painted in foot high, two tone letters down each side and although it seemed quirky I felt it might be bad luck to change it so I decided to leave it as is. Obviously it is a name that has no nautical association whatsoever and therefore, being a pretty unique name for a boat, meant that when I came to getting a River Thames licence I didn't have to add a number after it! Its the one and only!

Full Course.

Swmbo is involved in post grad dental training, so a fully booked course helps fund the boating. It sounds vaguely nautical but doesn't mean anything.

Swmbo doesn't like the name but was nowhere to be found when I was doing the paperwork and the kid's suggestion of Unsinkable Bob 2... which I actually quite like but not over the vhf!

Our boat is named CHROW - the first three letters of our kids names, Chris & Rowena, along the lines of VELSHEDA, which I have sailed on.

Our tender is called BABY CHROW, despite the sticker company sending me one called BABY GROW !?!?.

Our small sailing dinghy was called CHROW'S NEST.

Ours is called "St Iggy". The Saint coming from me being a Saints FC fan and Iggy coming from our 4 year olds favourite song "lust for life " by Iggy Pop !!

First boat was named 'Sub-zero' Reflecting my business in Refrigeration, and the kids also liked Clarksons 'Sub-zero' section on the 'cool wall' that Top Gear used to have. Just bought a boat after a 5 year gap since Sub-Zero had to go during a divorce from the then-current Mrs Taylor! New boat has been named 'CLOUD9' to reflect the joy of being back on ones feet, back in a motor boat and the joy of a good life with the now current Mrs Taylor!!

my first boat was called flotsam due to most of the stuff used to repair it was found in skips, swapped and begged. my present boat is in for a name change,margarita2 dosnt inspire

Hi all

When I bought mine she was called Addiction which I didn't really like but on the compression post under the mast there was a plaque with the name Aque-Fae engraved on it with the initials of a Yacht Club at the top of Tasmania on it (we are at the bottom)

A Fae from what I understand is a mythical creature like a fairy

I sent a email to the club asking if anyone knew the history of the boat and I received a reply from a gent who said he bought her when she was a year old from a person in Port Huon (where we live with a population of about 200 people) and sailed her to the top of Tassie and kept her for around 6 years when he sold her to another bloke in Hobart (at the bottom of Tassie and about 45 mins drive from where we live) who renamed her Addiction and kept her for around 25 years until he died and we bought her off his wife

So after 31 years she was back in her original location with her original name which I much prefer

Regards Don
