What's the story at Burnham

Some lulu might be smarter than you. If this boat has a bottom like a colander, which is difficult to believe as she was floating until she rolled over, she could be towed to a mud berth and used as a houseboat. At £6,400 purchase price and £7,500 to right her, it would make a very cheap home by the water

That, I believe, is precisely why the current owner bought her, though local rumour is that he paid £1.

It seems he took on far more than he realised.

If the vendor really only paid a £1 for it, he is doing well to get £6,400 now. It seems the vendor is not capable of getting his act together, but I believe that someone who is organised could get a good houseboat for £11,900 at the present sale price. A beach hut in Mersea would cost twice that much

I really do hope that you're right, David, and that she'll fairly soon be back afloat, showing off her timelessly elegant lines.

But ......have you seen her, David?

I see her every day (I live about 200 yards along the quay from her), and she is, as you might expect, currently one of the hottest topics of local conversation.

Sadly ....... I'm not going to hold my breath.

I do hope I'm wrong.

Yes, I have seen her

There a quite a few people in Burnham with a good knowledge of boats and property development but nobody has yet spotted the potential. If you're quick you might be able to snap up this bargain.:)

I have been around boats and property development for over 40 years, and I recon there is potential bargain. Many people can't see it because it is tatty and covered in mud. The cost of sorting this is much less than the value as a houseboat in a mud berth

I am not bidding. However, if I wanted a cheap week end place, I would bid, and if I were successful, I would put her in a mud berth

Shame .. I was looking forward to the house warming party.

No need to put her in a mud berth: she's been in one for many years, though I don't know anything about the annual cost or renewal arrangements.

As you mentioned property development, is it appropriate to ask how your own property development application is proceeding?

I fell out with Architect and got another one, who is very good. However, my Planning application was refused and I appointed a Planning Consultant to put in a Planning Appeal, and I am waiting for that appeal to be heard. I am hopeful of success. I know I am biased but the Planning Officer that refused me permission to built made several mistakes, and gave reasons that were contrary to her Councils guide lines
