What's the state of the MOBO market now if you're buying or selling?

Has the market improved this year or still in the doldrums?

I'm looking to buy a bargain like a £150k Phantom 46/Targa 52 etc to keep in the Med so I can purchase down there ideally.

Is this still do able or has the market firmed up?

My boat got very little interest over the winter. When the weather pepped up she moved quickly, and I got a good price for her, but she was well presented. Our new boat also hung around, and received several offers, before we sealed the deal. While it is not easy to sell a boat, it really depends how you price and present, and needs the weather feelgood factor too in my experience.

I thought doom and gloom alway surrounded boat sales?
This looks cheap.. http://www.yachtworld.co.uk/core/li...access=Public&listing_id=37144&url=&imc=pg-fs

I took a look at that one in May. It is the third boat in a flotilla looked after for the owner (who lives elsewhere) by a local guy for the owner. It seemed a little unloved. Many small things needed doing that added up to too much (and when you see the small things, it makes you wonder about that big things. Might be that he will take a low offer on it though. (and if you get the engines and hull fully surveyed, you could go to work on the little things). for me it was a no though.

Good value for sure but just a bit too old for me. Looking for something from 2000 onwards if possible.

I have time to be a little picky....

At the low end of the market where I reside, stuff does not appear to be shifting for any reasonable price, even on ebay. My little soapdish is insured for £7500 and has been substantially modified with many more creature comforts than standard, has had meticulous and well documented maintenance over the 5 years I have had her and she is in far better condition than she has been for years.

However, realistically speaking, I think at the moment instead of getting the 6-7K I would like to think she would fetch and would have a few years ago, I would be lucky to get 3.5K now.

Tho not in the top league of boats that the thread started with, I've been watching the lower end market continuously, even tho I've just bought a boat new to me, I still look.

For a long time now I've seen the same boats advertised time after time on epay and boatsandoutboards etc with virtually no interest.

In my honest opinion, I think the market has bottomed. Folk out there still advertising their boats for ridiculous money and are probably wondering why it won't sell. IMO a boat valued last year at say 15k for arguments sake would likely only fetch 12k in todays market, aside being a year older, but folk selling just haven't looked at the market and competition.

Economic and last years climate are the culprits here.

That's the sort of deal that I'm seeking.....good solid boat from a well respected builder at the right price.

Know the chap who bought that boat, around 500 hours on the clock.
It needed a new set of covers one of the A/C units had to be sorted plus the fuel tanks were full of crud and had to be cleaned out.
To get that price it was round to the crane, a quick look at the wet bits and then a cash offer.
Bought as seen and lying. No Survey and no boat to sell !
Chap has just come back from a nice inter island cruise and is as pleased as punch with his boat.
Most of the other P46 he looked at were priced around £200-£250 K.Some with more hours.
He did look a one in Essex but not as good and more money.

Not this one he didn't, its still going through the motions of recent sale and if it falls through ill be on the case.

To answer your question specifically, I have been told by a couple of brokers that the real bargains in the Med such as repos and distress sales have mostly gone and there is now something of a stand off between sellers unwilling to sell their boats for a knockdown price and buyers unwilling to pay more than a knockdown price. If you are in a cash position as a buyer, you are still in a very strong position but you may have to make low offers on several boats before you find a seller who bites. The best markets in which to look would probably be Spain and Italy where the economic situation is dire and you will find keen sellers but as ever, ensure you thoroughly check title before you buy

Good luck, really hope it comes you way. Buyers who get the good deals are those prepared to make fast decisions, have all their ducks in a row and perhaps are prepared to take a bit of a risk on boat condition.
Not for the faint hearted, :)

That's why I thought it looked cheap. The 350hrs on the new engines should be enough to have thrown up any problems.
Put the AZ52 next to a Phantom 46 at 50K more and I think I'd pick the Azimut, plus it's already where you want to be.
50k is a lot of diesel.

I've had a lot of people contact me asking if i'd swap the Cranchi + Cash for a bigger boat, as they want to down-grade. Unfortunately i'm selling as I want to travel the world, not upgrade. But I think it's an indication of what's going on... people getting wiser with their money and down-grading to something more affordable
