What's the procedure after damaging someone's boat?

Re: What\'s the procedure after damaging someone\'s boat?

Hi Ben I have often wondered about the swing radius of boats on swing mooring. I often see boats with sterns very close when there is little wind or tidal flow. It seems acceptable here to have swing radius overlapping relying on all boats facing the one direction. But they don't. This problem is exacerbated by excessively long mooring strops and the fact that conflict only rarely occurs. (when no one is watching.)

I have determined to clamp or mount a fending bar on the stern of my boat if this ever becomes a problem. Bloody minded maybe but my rudder is very susceptible being transom mounted.

We pay a licence fee for the right to moor in a certain place on the understanding that we have rights to that swing area. I would get grumpy if those rights were violated. olewill having a rant

I'm ashamed to say I've been on the other end - inflicted once very slight, once significant damage (a pushpit's worth). In both cases my explanatory letter was passed to the owner by the marina. No need for them to tell me anything about the owner. The owner can make contact.

Ask the marina to pass a message to the culprit.
