What's the point of this forum?

What\'s the point of this forum?

Here's a vid clip I just posted in SB having shot it today during the Louis Vuitton racing here in Auckland.

But what's the point in having a separate forum for vids only? Surely they belong in the context of a normal thread in an established forum? Having a video only forum doesn't make sense to me.

Because a normal thread in an established forum is an ephemeral thing that's darn near impossible to find again. But the videos in here have lasting appeal & you want to come back to them.

One plan would be to post the video here, than put a message in one of the other forums pointing to it. Best of both worlds.

(mind you, it would be good if the default view were "active in last year" rather than "active in 3 weeks").

I still think there is little point in this forum. Just look at the number of posts and viewings. Surely it would be better to post in one of the other forums and have a video icon to display in the post title???

The other reason for a separate forum is a purely practical one. You can link to a video from any post in any section but they can only be embedded (on here) by a mod/admin and Dan would have a hard job keeping up if he had to scour the whole board to find videos which people wanted embedded.

Of course, with decent forum software anyone can embed a video. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It is possible to let everyone embed their own videos but allowing html to be posted on the site is a serious security risk. Back to the original question, this section is really a test to see what level of interest there is in video amongst our users. It does provide a neat area for video as suggested, but we're looking at better ways of hosting your vids.
