What's The Most Interesting Thing You've Found At Sea?

Re: What\'s The Most Interesting Thing You\'ve Found At Sea?

Not interesting, but surreal:

A kite, flying about 50m or so above the waves, with the handles skimming along the waves. We tried to catch it, but missed by inches, and off it went towards Sweden.

Once found a bar table and bench set floating legs up serenly through the middle of Biscay. Given the currents and where we were, I'm guessing it had performed a transat. We didn't stop to see if anyone was sitting on the benches

France.

And a blue baseball hat I still use now and again.

Some chain (it took a bit of finding /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

My car Keys (but I cheated and waited for the tide to go out)

a couple of fenders.

.............finding a dinghy would be nice though /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

a solar shower bag

Was it off Aberystwyth? Mine rolled off the coach-roof, it took us a while to work out what the sploosh we heard was; too far back now to go looking.

I still have the spray head bit in the hope I find the rest of it again.

I can't believe someone has found it, 10% salvage?

a canoe paddle, reported it and searched around with the bins in case there was a canoeist paddling frantically to get home. Left it with the next harbour-master in case it was reported missing. I was right proud that we picked it up under sail with little hassle, no one to see my skill though! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

From trawler days,

plenty of dead sheep off the great orm, ovens, a bicycle that is now used daily by the skippers wife, a body (that I did not even recognise as such until told /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ), coal, plenty of coal, big lumps like boulders, my parents did not pay for heating while I was fishing!

Came across a grey heron, funny thing was the nearest land was Bermuda, about 300 miles away.

A baseball cap.
Not that funny you might think, however this baseball cap was the very one that one of my crew had lost several hours earlier during a very windy day at Cowes week last year. Couldn't believe we happened to sail past the same hat!
Didn't stop obviously, we were well placed!

Re: What\'s The Most Interesting Thing You\'ve Found At Sea?

A Radio controlled plane that the forces use as target practice, It was surreal as without anything to judge size we thought it may have been real. well it did have a wing span of about 10 - 12' with a super little engine on the front.

Called the coastguard and the lifeboat came and picked it up which at the time we thought was cool, only to find that there was a reward on any found ! Well at least it went to a good cause!
