Twenty six feet three and a quarter inches is the de facto size of an ideal boat. Some learned opinion say twenty six feet four and three fifth inches but I've never held to that view as it's far too radical...extreme even. Hope that helped.

My Ideal boat

A while back we fitted the heating in a new extension for Pearl Yachts Nr.Stratford .
When the boss saw me eyeing their 50 footer he asked did I want to order one.
Yes say`s I if you can put it in a bottle.
However they are beautiful boats and if money was no object.

Have a look

Pearl 50

What do you reckon to Pearl then? Build quality? I was quite taken with their P55 but its too much money. Now I see they're building a P50 which has a similar layout. Any idea where they're building this model?

Re: Pearl 50

Mike I thought the Pearl at LIBS (55, I think) was outstandingly well built and finished. It had some horrific gold bling bits including taps in the bathrooms with a Rolex logo, but they were all selected by the customer so not fair to mark em down on that. They will do a significant level of customisation, which is good. Imho the main drawback is the tiny flybridge, which rules em out for Med use

You've got a thing about gold taps!! Did you ever get Fairline to exterminate all the gold taps and handles on the Sq58? Apparently, first P55 has gome to Majorca and owner is offering it for charter but I agree with you that small(ish) flybridge is a drawback although it doesnt stop the likes of Trader selling in Med. Maybe you can ditch that opening roof over aft deck and turn overhang into sunpad?

Ideal for South Coast and Northern France in my opinion is around 40ft.
Big enough to entertain and be fairly comfortable in most conditions but small enough to get into the marinas.

Re: Pearl 50

Yup, we got the gold tap exchanged by Fairline. That left just one bit of gold on the whole boat, namely some fittings on the venetian blinds, and I just got the replacement parts from Oceanair in chrome the other week, and swapped them. So, happy now :)

On the pearl it wasn't the gold that was the prob, it was the massive "Rolex" logo on each tap!

Yes if the "roof" on the P55 could be made into a sunpad it would be great. Can't be done they say. Thus, the trade off (boats choosing all seems to be about trade offs....) is lousy flybr and great owners cabin, or vice versa. I prefer vice versa.

I must say though that the finish and fit inside the Pearl was excellent. Considering they are new to the game (compared with F'line, Princess, et al) they deserve much praise for doing it so well imho

Pearl 50 - balance - calling mjf

There's a peral in porto solente. Apparently a complete nightmare. Can someone confirm this? Mjf is moored nearby and generally keeps very up to date with the essential news...
