What's the flaw in my plan?

Exactly ? Portugal and Galicia is as good as it gets.

According to one train of thought, if your uk vat paid boat is in the EU on the day of our exit, then it will be deemed EU vat paid. (will it be UK vat paid as well?)

The way I understand it is that any boat in the EU will retain its status, whatever that is at the time, not necessarily VAT paid. Yes, if under the same ownership it returns to the UK at a later date, under the Returned Goods Act, it will have the same status as when exported. Once we know what's needed, then dtp should be able to produce suitable documents.

As you say to the OP get the boat down here ASAP, I can't think of any negatives.

It seems you must have upset someone. I've had a mooring at Faro (adjacent to PM launch) for 13 years now and have never been asked for anything but passport, SSR, insurance and light dues. Some, a tiny minority, have been asked for T2L. Equipment checks are very unusual and I have only known it happen a couple of times on scruffy "sea gypsy" boats.

Going back quite a few years, there were reported problems with foreign boats being stopped at sea by navy and police and demands for safety gear to be brought up to standard. After intervention by the RYA, it was agreed boats here <6 months do not have to meet their regulations.

Scruffy boats is the key ❗❗❗

Smart boats are a magnet for Portuguese authorities. Smart or scruffy imo.

Please forgive me if I withdraw from this element of the debate.?

Unlike the knock about of the Lounge, this forum focuses on discussions, hopefully to the mutual benefit to the liveaboard community.?

Guessing the boats that are most likely to attract the interest of the Portuguese Maritime Police hardly furthers this aim.??

I agree! The state of one's boat is irrelevant to this discussion. You will note the Portuguese T2L document question is being discussed in another recent thread with no mention of scruffy or smart boats.
