If you go here www.eastcoastpilot.com and click on the Ramsgate item under 'Latest News'....I think you'lll find they've not quite finished yet

Thanks for that.

It would be nice if sometime in the future they allocated berths like most other marinas rather leaving you to your own devices. This may explain why they have never turned anybody away.

dredging Ramsgate

I moore my boat in inner harbour and it appears the dredging in the outer marina is complete. But there is still an beach in the entrance to the outer marina and on low water springs the control office will ask you your keel depth. Anything over 1.5m will need to keep close to the light house. Having said that it is one of cheapest marinas on the south coast, the staff are friendly and there may not be any marine engineers here now but places to eat there are many.

Ramsgate

Stopped off in Ramsgate last week, most of the finger pontoons between F & G were being put back into position. The finger pontoons have been refurbished with a slightly flexible 'synthetic wood' edging which seems like a good idea.

We stopped off a couple of weeks back in our long-keeled 50ft-er. Twas a bit fraught, rafted up on a bunch of Dutch / Belgian boats who wanted out first thing, then a bit of a squeeze for us to turn round only to find that they had inconveniently moored a couple of big plastic jobs in a pincer formation across the exit of the fingers. Fortunately Pyro was brave (silly?) enough to keep enough headway on to sqeeze through the gap with literally inches to spare : )
Don't think we're planning a return until they've released the rest of the harbour back to yachties again so there's a bit more space.

Sad choice of words. Not used to reading that kind of thing here.

Apparently we can all expect a big price hike from Ramsgate. The council is mega bucks in debt and they feel yachties are one of the answers "make the pips squeak" or we will cover it in houses is the current philiosophy.

As it is Ramsgate is more expensive than Dover so a price increase would be a shame as Ramagate is IMHO the nicer of the two places.

We stopped off in Ramsgate on our way back from the Channel Islands and Normandy a couple of weeks ago and were very disappointed in how poor it is for visitors - especially larger boats.
The first problem is the location of the visitors pontoon, which is subject to swells - lots of them if you are near the end! Very uncomfortable even for a boat of our weight. No chance of us going any further in as we are too beamy and they raft up both sides of the visitors pontoon, which would make it impossible.
However, the main problem we found there is the commercial traffic. There are lots of windfarm boats now (plus pilots and fishing boats) all of which seem to think that going quickly before they leave and after they have entered the harbour area is perfectly OK and if it makes the yachts and mobos on the visitors berth bounce up and down it doesn't really matter.
It's a real shame as we have enjoyed staying there in the past and certainly prefer it to Dover (even though we get half price berthing there) but I can't see us going back in a hurry.

Ramsgate's marina is quite nicely integrated into the harbour and the town's waterfront but the management of the marina appears to be pretty shambolic on the other hand Dover's marina is tucked away in the 'armpit' of the docks and is some distance from the town but it is efficiently run.

Cover "what" in houses? The marina?, Surely that's just water???? I suppose they could build on the hard standing though.
