What's the appeal of River Boating

Still I reckon there are more pubs and eating places around the Solent than the Thames (Although I guess the Spinnaker Arms has suffered with oGaryos departure.)

Think you might be wrong on that one, the Thames does run through London and that has a few:D

The Sea is very exciting no speed limits and the thrill of the journey and satistaction of arriving at a new port is immense, but it needs so much more planning and organising (or it should) not too mention the fuel costs now are obscene. The river is so chilled, just cast off and go don't worry about lifting fenders, stowing lines and gear making ready for sea and a passage plan etc... just crack open a beer and enjoy the view. Yes the speed limit is a frustraion but actualy going slow with no hurry to get anywhere is the main appeal. Would reccomend it to anyone, i haven't taken anybody out who hasn't loved it.

Sail Boat in Thames

It is OK the navigation in Thames with a sail boat of 44ft or we could have problems with depth.

Thanks

But the Thames through London is tidal which is the point of the debate I thought (and just try mooring up along the Thames in London!)

True but then theres Teddington, Kingston, Hampton, Chertsey, Staines, Windsor, Bray, Maidenhead, Cookham, Bourne End, Marlow, Hurley, Henley and on and on. I thought the Solent had the Folly and that was it:D sorry I know thats not true but for shear variety and ease of access the Thames is unbeatable.
