Whats it worth?

I am going to re-engine the boat in the spring. I have a Nanni 14 to fit in place of the 1GM10. The only reason is that the yanmar is a little underpowered. I belive the engine to be orignal late 80's always serviced and starts well. I have used it for the last 3 years but probally no more than 200 hours.
How do I sell it, as far as I can tell its good but who knows how long it will last. Should I have it checked over before selling and what reasurance would that give? Should I offer it at £100 and you take a chance or £1000 as a good engine. Or ebay?

Wish you'd posted a month ago, but I couldn't wait any longer - 2nd hand Yanmars are not very common, especially ones that are replaced for the reasons you've given, which would indicate that it's not a dog.
I wouldn't bother getting it checked over before you sell it - the buyer can do that and choose who does the checking. If it's been looked after that will be apparent to some extent - no butchered nuts or screws on the injectors and alternator bolts are a good clue.
Are you selling in England or France? If I had been offered a s/h 1gm10 for £4-500 I would have jumped at it - £7-800 might make me stop and think a bit longer. I wouldn't pay over a grand unless I knew the engines' history. Expect to pay £2600 inc vat new minimum.

Sell on Ebay. Working when removed, be honest. Reserve of £250 in my opinion, got to be worth that for spares.

There is a 1GM here for £1k
and another here at the same price. new £2.5k so £1k sounds about right.

At that age I would advertise it as a good engine on ebay. Be honest, i.e reason for change power upgrade, always starts well serviced etc. you've had no problems and to the best of your knowlege it's in good shape. Yacht engines don't normally get thrashed but lead a fairly sedate life. A car engine would have had 10 times the thrashing and still be considered to have plenty of life left. Start the bidding at maybe £100 with a reserve at what you would be happy to let it go at.

just out of intrest do you think the nanni would make much difference, i would have thought your money would have been better spent on a good prop or the 2 cyl yanmar

brand new w/c 1GM10 is £2100

£1000 is far too much IMO for an 80's unit.

Maybe a 3 bladed prop would help. The 2 cylinder yanmar is a lot heaver than the nanni which weighs the same (92 Kg) as the Igm, it is also shorter than the 2GM. The extra 4 HP will be useful also freshwater cooling.

I had a hunter 265 with a !1GM10 & then had a hunter pilot with the nanni 14hp.You probably know that the hull is the same for both boats.The nanni was a super engine & gave good drive through any swell or chop & gives you circa 50% more power than the 1GM10.Being fresh water cooled you can also fit a calorifier & have hot water

The prop on the 265 was a 14x9(I still have it as I fitted a Maxprop to the 265)
From memory the Pilot prop was a 15x10.You can confirm this with Hunters or post a query on Hunter Assoc website,I see you are a member.
