i am now looking at a Doral Elegante with volvo twins on shafts

several Q's:

what would be a good (or max) price for a 2004 model 450 hrs
can the ugly extended bathing platform be removed - any idea of cost?
any problems to watch out for?
Are smaller Dorals worth looking out for?

Martin:)

I would say if you dont like the look of the bathing platform then buy something you do like the look of as changing it will cost thousands and wont make boat worth any more

The swim platform is easily removed by 2 people its bolted on and has 2 poles under it. However they are very useful, I know they can be a site but if you fish its great, somewhere to keep a tender and its out of the way, the mrs sunbathes when the sun is that side, there are many uses for it. Without it getting on the boat is not as easy as the sides are small.

As far as the boat goes these are heavy boats and on shaft they are really under powered, the engine was the trouble some KAMD 300 and after blowing mine up I got rid of it, mine was an 04 and was sold for £110 the going rate would be around or just under £100k

hope that helps

Thanks SolentPhill and aquapwer thisis useful - the boat is going to be used in the Norfolk Broads mostly and seaa going occasionally so the engines will not get a hammering - in fact I know i will have the give them a good blow sometimes.

I might rethink taking the platform off if i get it.

Sound like it would be an ideal boat for you then, not sure anything needs looking out for, I blew mine up as there was a problem with the injectors putting too much fuel in and it melted a piston. if I/you had a gauge to show how much fuel each engine is using that would have picked that up.

good luck with your purchase.

let me know if you get it

pic of my old one
