not leaving loing term yet, but am going off for 2 months to spend the time in the Caribbean on my new (to me) boat with my Love.

I will miss long baths in deep hot water with loads of bubbles.

I'm leaving on 4th April this year - and my number one miss will be my cat. Can't teach an old cat new tricks, so she's going move in with my neighbours - hopefully...

I don't think I'll miss the UK winter weather - the commute to work in the dark followed by the drive home in the dark.... Some folk reckon they have missed the UK seasons - but I'm hoping it'll take at least a couple of years before I tire of the year round sunshine!

While I was away I missed, erm... erm... uhhh. Well, nothing.
The things that I detest now that I am back is the increase in bureaucracy, mindless TV shows, crowds, smokey pubs, the price of petrol, the difficulty of settling into an urban lifstyle again....

Things I detest and don't miss are along the lines of those listed by Stingo.

Things I miss are: nice bacon. And of course family.

Since moving to Spain:

there are hundreds of things I don't like about Spain BUT
there are thousands of things I don't like about the UK.

I don't miss UK income tax levels, the cost of road fuel, TV licencing, tax on booze, road tax, cold weather, council tax, the Q's going up the M3 on a Sunday evening, and I didn't miss not going to LIBS for the first time in 12 years..... (to name just a few).

I miss our dogs who we left with very dear friends when we made the decision to get out of the UK for a better life and I miss some friends who we don't see so much of now (but we talk a lot via Skype)

I know it is a stupid thing, but what I've always missed when not in UK are the church bells and birds that sing rather than squawk. In warmer climates I've missed the long summer evenings.

There are very many negative generalities you can make about any country but what I feel is worst about UK is the "Can't do" attitude, the Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber TV programs and the constant moaning from people who won't get up off their ass and do somthing about the situation that is giving them grief.

As others have said, we're not anticipating missing any 'thing' from the UK. People will be missed but that can be resolved by Christmas flights home and occasional visits from family & friends while we're away.

The last time I missed friends, the familiarity of my native language and the advantage it gives you when dealing with bureaucracy, also pined for good bacon and Atora suet. Next time (later this year) I guess it will be much the same....but this time daughter (now 20) will be staying on land so one more to add to the list....

On the "won't miss" list - cold, rain, expensive booze, pricey fags, the feeling that everyone else is out there doing it while you are muddling through life in the drizzle.

what did we miss....

everyone who came to visit was required to bring tea bags (foil packed). i missed beer - real ale (for the benefit of non-brits - served COOL, not warm). sausages, curry, our animals and friends and family though most came out and spent time with us.

Re: what did we miss....

Man-size tissues (odd cos they don't all have little noses!)
English salted butter (e.g. Country Life)
Beef dripping (only way to do nice roast pots)
Decent jam and marmalade
Fresh cream - not soured, from. frais or otherwise mucked about
