What weight NG anchor for a 20ft yacht?

I'm not recommending it as a method ..... but surely the anchor will set progressively as the wind increases in strength?

Richard
Thing is you have no idea whats going on down there, little while ago in a known anchorage with good holding i could drag low revs, left it as it was just a quick nip to the shops at slack water with no wind . Pulled up the hook later and it had done a bulls eye straight through the skeleton of an ancient life ring. That's why with cruisers it's not uncommon to go a good 30s or more full blast astern, if the holding is bad or you land on something it's better to know straight away.

It might. But then again it might not. If you have demonstrated to your own satisfaction that you can motor astern on it at 2000 rpm or better then you know for sure it will hold in a F6. To me it's a no-brainer if you have a working engine.

Indeed ... I agree with both of you which is why it would not be my preferred method.

But, if you did believe in not using the engine to bed in but preferred to rely on the wind then I don't suppose you'd be bothered if there was no wind when you dropped anchor as you just wait for it to arrive and do its stuff. :)

Picked up crap on the toe enough times to make it very hard to relax without checking... :)

Too much at stake to not try to find put if the hook will hold if a squall comes in with a load of wind.
