Dear Members of the Parish

I wonder if someone out there could advise....

I wish to pick out and refresh the sealer between my keel and the fiberglass hull.
Would anyone know if there is a particular type of sealer that I should use?

As always.... many thanks

Ian

Sikaflex 291 or 292

silicone is not good practice, if ever you need to paint it wont adhere to where the silicone was

Sikaflex 291 ideally as it's not only suited for use below water but it's an adhesive as well as a sealant, as opposed to something like Dow Corning which hasn't got the adhering properties nor the below waterline suitability.

Steer clear of anything aimed at bathroom use.;) (however it may be noted that my toilet is Sikaflex'd to my bathroom floor...no amount of 'heavy wind' is going to shift that now)

I wouldn't use 291 as it IS an adhesive, and I think you need a sealer with some adhesive properties rather than the other way round.
Whilst I appreciate Sun Odyssey 37s have a propensity for losing keels..... why not phone Ian Scott at Clarke & Carter, I think he has experience of the recommended Jeanneau sticky stuff.

I think the stuff to use these days is CT1. Obtainable at most builders suppliers. Do not use silicone type sealers, they don't work well even in your bathroom.
In my experience Sika of whatever variety has a limited life in keel joints whereas CT1 will last many seasons. It has the ability to stick to wet surfaces, it is flexible and you can paint over it too.
