Hi Last year I purchased this boat for my father as a retirement project and wondered if any body knew what type of boat this is, if it has a particular make or if it maybe some form of kit. tHe boat is 18 feet in length.
Now if you are asking for the type I would have to say this could probably be a cuddy cabin, a walkaround, or a pilothouse boat. It would be difficult to identify the brand though if based plainly on appearance. I'll ask around and get back to you as soon as I got info.
Dates probably from the 1970s when there were many small builders and GRP moulders knocking out boats like that. Probably had a name something like "Mudhole Fisher 19" or something equally forgettable.
That makes sense, looking at some pictures this morning, from the inside, it looks like maybe it was a kit, because the inner floor doesn't seem to line up perfectly with the engine bay area.
Agree that it from 70s and I do recognise the boat from its quite high wheelhouse but cant remember its name. I have had a look through some of my massive collection of PBOs back to Jan 1967 but cannot find a match. I thought it was a Seafairer 533 built by Smallcraft of Portsmouth but the deck join does not look quite right and the camber at the stern on your Dads boat is a bit too high so that is ruled out. One point to keep in mind that insurers like to have the name of the builder if poss as that gives them some sort of idea that the hull was moulded by a company and has some provenance e.g Island Plastics. Will keep looking but I am up to 1980 when the self build was beginning to decline. If yo can get a full side view showing the relative proportions of the cabin top and foredeck that might help.
Built a few from that era so keen to see the wee boat rescued. First job looks as to be to get the windows in. Brings back memories (not all of them good ones as got sore fingers) of using Claytonrite self sealing strip
Thanks for the replies, I will get some better side photos and photos in general of the boat on saturday and post them. I was looking through a few of the pictures we do have and found one that to me it looks like its not even, the way the left hand side goes down further than the right and so was starting to wonder if perhaps somebody put two boats together, is that a posibility?
There was a Fi-King 20 built by Fi-Craft Products of Benfleet in Essex. They supplied hulls in various forms for home completion. Now I know that the OP said it was 18 feet but that may not be correct as it would seem that the previous owner did not know what the hull was so may have estimated the length at 18 feet, also boat builders had a habit of rounding up the length of their boats to make them look bigger on paper. It also maybe that there was an 18 foot version but I have not found anything of that size.
The advert I have shows the exact same design of wheelhouse with the deep window and section at the foot to marry up with the cockpit comings. The foot of the wheelhouse has the dogleg section similar to the OP photograph. The coach roof has a long coming running down to deck level at the stern of the main deck. The windows and deck hatch seem to be the same in terms of size and spacing and the cut outs in the gunwales are also in the same place.
It does look a very close match. If the OP would like to send me a PM with his email address, I will copy advert and send it.
